Blyth Novices trailing
Seaforth in playoff series
The Blyth Novices find
themselves trailing two games to one
in their best three-of-five playoff
series with Seaforth.
Alex Peters and Spencer
Stevenson did the scoring on Feb. 17
as the Blyth squad scored a 2-0
decision to get back into the series.
Mike Van Wyk recorded the shut
out in the Blyth net.
Peters did all the scoring for Blyth
in game two of the series played Feb.
15 in Seaforth, as the visitors were
handed a 5-3 setback by the host
team.
Ryan Nesbitt and Mike Van Wyk
earned single assists.
Matthew Van Wyk was in goal for
Blyth.
Trystan Weber was the lone goal
getter for Brussels in the opening
game of the series, played Feb. 13 in
Blyth.
Mike Van Wyk received an assist
and Matthew Van Wyk was in goal
for Blyth.
Mustangs were handed a 59-24 defeat.
Peel was top shooter for the junior Mustangs with 13
points. Chase Chapman had six points and Wyatt Batte
had five points.
Junior Mustang coach Chris Coulthard said the team
has been improving, but St. Michael’s and Northwestern
are two of the stronger teams in the league.
He indicated that with a 1-8 record in league play, the
Madill junior boys won’t be competing in the playoffs.
“We showed some hustle today,” Coulthard said
following Thursday’s contest.
In the senior contest, Elliott scored eight points for
Madill and Brown contributed seven points.
Junior Mustangs’ coach, Terry Cox, said the team is 0-
9 in league play and are out of the playoffs.
He said they did a good job against the Huskies on
Thursday.
“Compared to last year, we have improved,” said Cox.
The quarter- and semi-finals were played yesterday,
Wednesday, with the Huron-Perth final being played
Friday.
The coach said there is a club team called the Huron
Tsunami, which is comprised mostly of girls from
Madill.
“The girls have shown improvement from the
beginning of the season,” said Donnelly. “We could be a
‘sleeper’ team at the Huron-Perth.”
Coach Audrey Bos said the girls played well in games
one and three versus Northwestern and had some serving
problems in game two.
The junior Mustangs dropped all three games to
Northwestern, 16-25, 9-25 and 14-25 before losing all
three games to Central Huron, 23-25, 25-27 and 22-25.
Coach Kent Klassen said he was disappointed in the
way the girls played in their match against Central
Huron. He felt they could have played better.
The team showed some improvement during the
season, but Klassen believed the team played its best
volleyball during the middle of the season.

taste of playing forward. Jessie Walton made many great saves, but despite
