Greeting at Blyth United Church
on Sunday. Feb. 20 were Barb
Richmond and Fred Meier. Ushers
were Rob and Karen Mason and Pat
and Harvey Bernard. Guest
musician was Margaret Kai.
The choir anthem was You Are
The Salt of The Earth. The
children's hymn, I Love To Tell The
Story, was sung as they gathered at
the front of the church for their story
time. The Sunday school children
presented the $100 plus that they
had raised for the tsunami relief
through UNICEF.
The lectionary reading was Psalm
90.
Rev. Eugen Bannerman's message
to the adults was Canada. Let's Keep
Working. We are only promised 70
years and if we are strong eighty
years. This was promised back in
Moses' time and 3,000 years later it
is still the norm for most active men
and women.
Six provinces, including Ontario,
have a mandatory retirement age of
65 years. If your brain finds
something new and significant to do,
it can keep on doing it into your 70s,
80s and even 90s provided your
physical health remains good.
Some find a second vocation to
get involved in after retirement.
Many discover they have a second
vocation that we have never thought
of.

Memorial Hall needs repairs
By Bonnie Gropp
Citizen editor
Repairs for Memorial Hall is just
one of the big financial challenges
facing North Huron councillors.
At their Monday night meeting,
the possibility of applying for a
Trillium grant to assist with the
necessary work was mentioned. Jodi
Jerome, curator of the North Huron
depends on what you want to do.”
According to Stewart, water has
been coming in behind the brick,
freezing and snapping the brick off
the wall. Also, the drywall has been
removed in the men’s washroom to
see what kind of damage might be
there as a result of water. While
there is no mold at this point,
Stewart said there is a considerable
amount of water getting in.

Blyth CIBC gets

There has been a new face at the
CIBC branch in Blyth since the
beginning of the year.
Rhonda De Jong of Lucknow has
been manager of the branch since the
beginning of January.
She has been with the CIBC for 12
years, most recently as the assistant
manager at the Goderich branch.
De Jong is married to Steve, and
they have two children, daughter
Katie, 10, and son Nick, 7.
She is from the area, as she was

Museum has suggested looking into
a grant to cover any work needed al
all of North Huron heritage
buildings, said clerk-administrator
John Stewart.
“'The thing with Trilliam is you're
not sure what you would get. A
certain amount is allotted to the
region you’re in and once that
maximum is reached you won't get
any more."
Reports, on costs for repairs at
Memorial Hall vary, Stewart said,
from $30,000 to $100,000. “It
Council
wants
more info
By Bonnie Gropp
Citizen editor
On Monday night. North Huron
council deferred a decision to sign
an agreement with Central Huron
and Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh
for Auburn Hall.
Central Huron requested 25 per
cent funding from North Huron.
However, council wondered where
the figure came from as they only
have nine residences and three
businesses within the hamlet. A-C
W was given the same percentage
and they have considerably more
taxpayers within the boundaries.
Councillor Archie MacGowan
said, “Twenty-five per cent seems a
bit heavy,” and asked that more
information be obtained before a
decision is made.
“We think it’s not just confined to
the washroom, but to the whole
north side. To my knowledge no one
has been on the roof yet to see where
it’s coming in. It is going to have to
be addressed sometime.”
Stewart also noted that it’s a
difficult area to work on because of
the access ramp. “There has been
some debate about removing the
ramp because when it was put in
there was no elevator inside.”
Councillor Archie MacGowan felt
that council needed to move on this
quickly. “I'm afraid the longer we
leave it, the more expensive it’s
going to become. “
A budget discussion meeting has
been set for March 3, at which time
council will give the matter further
consideration.
