Obituaries ALVIN EDMUND SNELL At the Clinton Public Hospital, Alvin Edmund Snell of Blyth went peacefully to his eternal home on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005 surrounded by his family. He was 86. North Huron council briefs Council authorizes payment for repairs At its Feb. 7 meeting. North Huron council authorized payment in the amount of $10,994.48 to Melloul Blaney Construction Inc. for repairs to the North Huron Wescast Community Complex. *** Bills and accounts in the amount of $389,840.78 were approved for payment. *** The quote from Cimco Refrigeration for the water treatment system of the refrigeration/condenser and domestic water at the Complex was accepted. *** The township will enter into an annual service agreement with SOMMERS Motor Generator Sales Ltd. for the price of $625 per year. *** North Huron will enter into an agreement with the Town of Goderich to provide building OPP lay charges crash Peb. 11 at approximately 7:30 p.m. OPP were called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash on London Road north of Clinton. A 1997 Freight Liner truck and silver 1993 Buick Regal had been involved in the collision. The driver of the Buick was injured in the crash and was taken to Clinton Public Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released. The officer, while dealing with this man, found that the vehicle was registered unfit for use on the road and that the licence plates were reported as stolen from the Caledon area. The driver’s licence was also expired. A 37 year old from Bolton has been charged with dangerous driving over the crash, possession of stolen property plus operation of an unsafe vehicle, driving a motor vehicle with no licence and using plates not authorized for vehicle. He will attend court in Goderich on April IS. Alvin was born in Westfield, Ontario on July 16, 1918, a son of the late Gordon and Ella Snell. In September of 1939, he married Lillian Eugene Cook a daughter of the late Walter and Charlotte Cook, also of Westfield. Alvin farmed in Westfield until 1962, when he moved to Blyth with his wife and five children. Alvin operated the Snell Grocery and Locker Service store for several years. He was a member of the Blyth United Church, Blyth Horticultural Society and the Blyth Lions Club. He was the dear husband of the late Lillian Eugene (Cook) Snell (2001). He was the devoted father of Harvey (Deanna) Snell, Clifford Snell and friend Irene Schilbe, Bonnie (Herb) Shannon, all of Blyth, Shirley (Jack) Johnson of London, inspector services. *** Letters were received from two residents expressing objection to the municipality performing marriage ceremonies. One letter specifically stated the concern of “same-sex marrriages.” Clerk-administrator John Stewart noted that civil ceremonies have been conducted in the past at the town hall by a justice of the peace. However, justices of the peace now feel they do not have the time, thus it has been passed to municipalities to offer the service if they choose. Mr. Snell will also be missed by his 14 precious great-grandchildren, Dana, Faye, Masyn, Jordyn, Hailey, Alison. Alisha, Aniah, Thomas, Nathan, Lillian, Emma, Hayden and Mark. He was the dear brother of Ernest (Anna), Jasper (Eva), Donald and Jeanetta (Delton) Hallman, and brother-in-law of Mary Walden. Mr. Snell will also be missed by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by grandson Kent, his parents Gordon and Ella, sisters-in-law Laverne and Shirley and brother-in-law Lloyd. Friends and family were invited to the Blyth Visitation Centre, Falconer Funeral Homes Ltd., 407 Queen St.. Stewart said couples have the right to the option of a civil ceremony. “Someone has to do them.” Councillor Arnold Taylor noted, however, that he found it interesting the government had passed the responsibility down to local government and “won’t have the flack to deal with.” A letter is being sent to the two parties. *** Council authorized payment in the amount of $175 for a half-page advertisement in the Huron Pioneer Thresher and Hobby Association □ Blyth & area □ Brussels & area Blyth on Thursday, Feb. 10 from 2 - 4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of Alvin’s life took place at the Blyth United Church, 442 .Mill St., Blyth on Friday, Feb. II at ll a.m. Interment beside his beloved wife Gene, will be at Blyth Union Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Clinton Public Hospital Foundation, Blyth United Church, Blyth Horticultural Society or to the charity of one’s choice would be appreciated. Alvin will be remembered for his love of nature, be it walks in the bush, birdwatching, gardening, or trips up north to see the fall colours, but he will be remembered most of all for his love for his children and their families. JUNE ETTA COOK Miss June Cook of Clinton passed away at Seaforth Manor Nursing Heritage Book.*** Authorization was given for a maximum of two municipal staff and/or councillors to attend the Western Ontario Municipal Water Association education seminar, ivlarch 8 in Ingersoll at a cost of $49 per person. A total of two people were authorized to attend human resources seminar in Listowel, Feb. 23 at a cost of $95 per delegate. *** Council authorized sponsorship of Home on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005. She was 58. June was the daughter of the late Harvey and Grace (Cooper) Cook and dear sister of Fay and Bill McClinchey of Clinton. Dorothy and Jim Carter of RR1, Londesborough, Hugh Cook of Clinton and Larry Cook of Wingham. She was also survived by several nieces and nephews. June was predeceased by her brother Fred Cook. Visitation was at the McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham on Monday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of memorial services at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Sieman Speelman officiated. Placement of ashes will be later in Brandon Cemetery, Belgrave. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Ontario would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. the Huron County Plowing Match in the amount of $125.*** Council had no objection to garbage collection being held on Tuesdays rather than Fridays in Blyth and Wingham.*** Council had no objections to a new taxi service in the township on the condition it meet bylaw requirements.*** A contribution of $4,500 was granted to the Belgrave Community Centre board as requested.
