The 38th annual meeting of Huron-Perth Presbyterial United Church Women was held in Parkview United Church, Stratford, on Wednesday, Feb. 9. The theme of the meeting was Sisters in Spirit. Gloria Dow, presided for the morning worship with the theme of ashes, as this was Ash Wednesday. Rev. Gary Clarke, minister of Parkview United Church, assisted by Mrs. Dow and Marlene Coulthard, the incoming president, served communion. Murray Donaldson, chair of Huron-Perth Presbytery, brought greetings and thanked the women for their support of the local churches over the years. He congratulated them on their support for the work in the larger church, especially the Mission and Service Fund. Helen Bowman of London, incoming president of London Conference United Church Women was the guest speaker. She used many references of Sisters in Spirit during her talk. She asked for participation from the audience of sisters and what being a Sister in Spirit meant to them. She referred to sisters mentioned in the Bible, and had the group discuss when they had been a sister to someone, or when a sister had done something for them. Flutist Jan Searle, accompanied by Anne Reuber, provided musical entertainment immediately following lunch. During the business it was decided to give Camp Bimini and Camp Menesetung $(,000 each for the 2005 camping season. It was also decided to give $500 to the United Church Caribbean Hurricane Relief Fund, as the overseas personnel Lori Stewart and Paul Hagerman of London Conference had returned to Jamaica to find their home damaged, no fresh water and Paul’s notes badly damaged. Margaret Mason, president of London Conference was present to install the new executive. Marlene Coulthard of Mitchell, was installed as the new president. Gloria Dow was presented with a gift from the Presbyterial for the two years she had served as the president. Muriel Coultes, Pat Hunking, Yvonne Coultes, Rev. Ethel Miner Clair, all from the Belgrave UCW were present for the meeting. Other UCW members from this surrounding area were also pres­ ent. A. Nicholson hosts Belgrave WMS The Belgrave WMS held its meeting on Monday, Feb. 7 at the home of Alice Nicholson. The purpose was read in unison 12 tables in play at shoot There were 12 tables of shoot in play on Friday, Feb. 11 at the Community Centre. Winners were: high lady, Marie Stewart; second high lady, Mary McIntosh; most shoots, Lois EWPS speakers advance On Tuesday, Feb. 8 East Wawanosh Public School held its storytelling competition for Grades 1-3. The following is a list of the students competing, their topics, and the results: Grade 1, Cole McKee, Mortimer, Brett Jarvis, The Ogre, Ryelee Fear, Love You Forever, first; Grade 2, Drew McKee, Drew’s Snowsuit (first), Jarod Logan, The Mud Puddle, Dallas Coultes, I Got To Go; Grade 3, Stacey Hallahan, Stacey’s Ponytail (first), Braydon Whitfield, 50 Below Zero, Andrea Shiell, Henny Penny. The overall results for Grades 1-3 are as follows: first overall, Stacey Hallahan; second overall, Drew McKee; third overall, Braydon Whitfield. Hallahan will go on to represent the school at the Wingham Legion on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 11 a.m. On Wednesday, Feb. 9, East Wawanosh Public School held its public speaking competition for the Junior Division, Grades 4, 5 and 6 and the Intermediate Division, Grades 7 and 8. The following is a list of the junior students competing, their topics and with a Call to Worship by Margaret Siertsema followed by prayer. Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross was read in unison. Rev. The next shoot is Friday, Feb. 25 at 1:30 p.m. the results: Grade 4, Caitlin Daw, Pets, Caroline McDowell, Toothpaste (first), Sydney Jarvis, Substitute Teacher; Grade 5, Jillian Montgomery, Superstitions, William Haines, Sharks, Grayson Van Camp, Lego (first); Grade 6, Brittany Haines, Organ Donors (first), Matthew Hallahan, Amazing Questions and Answers, Matthew Cottrill, Superstitions. The overall results for Grades 4,5, 6 are as follows: first overall, Brittany Haines; second overall, Caroline McDowell; third overall, Grayson Van Camp. Haines will go on to represent the school at the Wingham Legion. Intermediate results are: Grade 7, Dalton Delisle, X-Sports, Greg Dodds, Idioms, Brandon Chaffe, Lacrosse, Kaytee Richmond, Terry Fox (first); Grade 8, Adel Dodds, Braces (first), Claren Yuili, Movies. The overall results for Grades 7 and 8 are as follows: first overall, Kaytee Richmond; second overall, Brandon Chaffe; third overall, Greg Dodds. Richmond will go on to represent the school at the Wingham Legion. Campbell read from Luke Chapter 8. Mrs. Siertsema read a story on the woman who touched Jesus’ robe as he walked by. She felt the healing power of God. A motion was passed to send $70 to a school in Jobat, India. Belgrave WMS’s twining partner is Kincardine this year.
