The first period of play was dominated by Seaforth as they scored three goals in the opening period. However, Blyth rebounded and dug in hard to ensure that these were the only goals that Seaforth would score. Strong goaltending by Kennan MacDonald and good defensive play kept Seaforth from scoring in the next two periods. In the second period Steven Ellis scored a goal to put Blyth on the board. Heidi Raynard continued the momentum for Blyth with a second goal, assisted by Nick Brandon Caldwell and Nathan Plunkett. The final score was 3-2 for Seaforth. Bantam girls fall The Brussels Bantam Girls travelled to Goderich on Jan. 21 for an exhibition game. The teams were evenly matched, but unfortunately Brussels couldn’t seem to score and lost 1-0. Saturday, Jan. 22 would be a much better day on home ice. Teeswater/Belmore started the scoring early with a goal 12 seconds in the first period. Brianne Wheeler stopped the initial shot but Teeswater tapped in one of the rebounds. With 5:39 left in the first Jodi McIntosh popped one in over the goalie’s glove hand to tie up the game. The assist went to Kristen McArter. Two minutes later Brussels Tykes play parents The Brussels Tykes battled against their parents at the home game on Saturday, Jan. 29. There was a great turnout with 12 Tyke families. Playing for teams were Jason Baxter, Cheryl and Steve; Kai Heimstra; Colton Hastings and Darryl; Nathan Armstrong and his big brother; Scott Baan; Scott Blyth Jr. Tykes The Blyth Tyke II hockey team played Zurich on Saturday, Jan. 29. Blyth played an excellent game with goals being scored by Drew Bromley, Hunter Dale, Dawson Coultes, Catherine Chalmers, Justin Rodgers and Dustin Treble. Assists were made by Craig Raynard. Franklin Marshall, Shelby Higgins, Owen Weber, Amy Boyce and Jordan Hubbard. Playing an excellent game in net was Brandon Marshall. Zurich played a great game with only two extra players on the bench. Dolmage and Steve; Wyatt Ducharme, Murray and Shelley; Tim Waecher and Dwayne; Logan Clark, Kim and Rodger; Matt McNichol and Michelle; Rodney Kramer and Lisa and Ben Hruska and Bob. The winner of the game was disputed at great length in the change room. The next Tyke game is Feb. 5 against BCH at Brussels, 10 a.m. On Saturday, Jan. 29 Blyth travelled to Wingham. Excellent playing by all the Blyth players made for a very exciting game. Raynard did a great job in net, making some big saves. Blyth got on the scoreboard in the second period when Cody K. scored, with the assist going to Caldwell. Later in the second period Ellis scored an unassisted goal for Blyth. Early in the third period Ellis, assisted by Caroline McDowell, added another one for Blyth. Late in the third Ellis added one more to the board to complete his hattrick. The final score was 4-1 for Blyth. 1-0 to Goderich Chelsey McLellan scored from the blue line with assists credited to Lindsay Watson and Jory Uyl Halfway into the second period, McIntosh scored her second goal of the game with an assist to McLellan. It was a scoreless third period giving Brussels a win and a final score of 3-1. Due to uncontrollable circumstances the WOAA Women’s Day of Champions All Star game that was scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 30 was cancelled. Brussels was to send goaltender Brianne Wheeler and centre Colleen Aitchison. It was unfortunate that these two girls are unabie to shine amongst their hockey peers. Senior Tykes lose to Seaforth The Blyth Senior Tykes were handed a 6-1 setback by Seaforth, in a contest played at the Blyth and District Community Centre on Saturday. Josh Van Soest was the lone goal getter for Blyth, with Dustin Pennington earning the assist. Dalton Carey was in goal for Breast Screening Saves Lives!
