The Blyth Atom Girls hockey team met up with Mount Forest on Saturday
at home
The girls had a great game. Jessie Walton was strong in net having her best
game yet.
Rebecca Chalmers, Lauren Cronin, Ashley Higgins, Courtney Middegaal,
Kelsey Kerr, Alisha Middegaal and Mikayla Middegaal were very strong on
offence, showing improvements. The defence was strong as well with Chloe
Middegaal, Jeanette Plaetzer, Laura Higgins and Justine Reid doing a stand
up job.
The girls had a helping hand from Caroline McDowell and Shelsie Popp
which was very much appreciated and seemed to give them the edge they
needed to finally get their first win of the season. McDowell and Popp both
scored to give the team a 2-1 win over Mount Forest.
They look forward to their next game on Saturday, Feb. 5 in Walkerton.
Dynamites prepare for provincials
The Blyth Dynamite PeeWee broomball team played its final regular
season game against Palmerston, at home Saturday, Jan. 29.
In the first period Blyth’s Chantel Collins made a pass to Derek
Logtenberg, who took a hard shot on the net for the first goal of the game.
Palmerston fought back and scored a goal on the next shift. Blyth’s goalie,
Courtney Bos tried to stop the ball by coming out and covering the ground,
but Palmerston’s captain was on a breakaway and at the last second shot the
ball over Boss’s shoulder.
In the second period each team was hungry to score again. The
goaltenders made several great saves.
Forward, Jessica Kuik made a pass to Morgan Bos who handed off to
Brent Drost. He got around Palmerston’s defence and made a strong slapshot
on net to score for Blyth.
The Dynamites have a practice this weekend before heading up to Barrie
to wrap up the season with the provincial broomball tournament, Feb. 11-13.
