Jan. 9 the Blyth Novice Rep team travelled to Ayton for their first tournament of the year. Blyth was matched up against Wiarton in the first game. Matthew VanWyk stood on his head to protect Blyth’s net and after three periods of end-to-end play, the game ended in a 0-0 tie. Blyth faced off against Stayner in their second game. Blyth’s Dalton Richmond started off the scoring at 8:37 in the first period, assisted by Alex Peters and Spencer Stevenson. Stayner came back to tie up the game, however Peters soon dashed Stayner’s spirits by scoring back-to-back goals. Peters' second goal was assisted by Trystan Weber. Stayner did not surrender and scored another with 53 seconds left in the second period. This would prove to be Stayner’s last goaf of the game. Stevenson took a hand off from Peters to score Blyth’s final goal halfway through the third period. Blyth won the game 4-2. The championship game put Blyth back up against their Wiarton rivals. Peters gave Blyth an early lead snapping one unassisted into Wiarton’s net in the first period. Wiarton snuck one by VanWyk in the second period to tie it. The tie was short-lived, however, Peters bulged the twine in Wiarton’s net with another unassisted goal. VanWyk’s quick glove hand and flexibility along with the Bulldogs’ strong defence shut Wiarton out in the third period leading Blyth to a 2-1 victory.
