I'm sure family get- togethers were on everyone's agenda and we hope all enjoyed great times. Some family members travelled from afar such as John and Marci McCall McBain and Carali McCall from London, England. John and Marci were here for a couple of days prior to Christmas and Carali stayed for a longer spell before returning to Slade University in London. England. Christmas guests at Jack and Donna Knight's were daughter Joanne with husband Weldon and children Andrew and Allison. They flew in on Dec. 22 from Saint John. New Brunswick to enjoy a wonderful 11 days with Mom and Dad. Brad and Janine. Steve and Marni had a great visit with them and a memorable family Christmas. There was sadness for the friends and family of Viola Kirkby who passed away Dec. 28. She spent a lovely Boxing Day with her son Glen and family in Goderich and returned home on Monday. A-large gathering of family and friends attended the funeral on Friday where a time of remembering was shared by her niece, brother, grandson and son. Our condolences to her many family and friends. Our condolences also to the Willis family on the passing of Gibson Willis last week. He was a long-time resident of Brussels and former teacher. He will be missed by his many family members of the Brussels-Walton area. It was birthday parly lime al the Walton Inn for Michael Craig. He celebrated his 30lh birthday with about 25 family and friends on Sunday. The Walton Inn received a freshened up look with some painting being done over the holidays. The McWhirter reunion was held al Blylh Community Centre on (he weekend. There were over 60 attending with special visitors. Bob and Gail (Jack McWhirter's daughter) Hodgins from Alberta. Attending from the Walton area were Mabel Willis's daughters Sharon Dalton. Dianne McCallum and Donna McClure and many of their family members. A great time was enjoyed by all. The fire trucks made a visit to Walton on New Year's Day, to the Walton Landfill site. An unexplained fire erupted and was brought under control quickly, around the supper hour. Plans are underway for fundraising lor the Juvenile boys The Hitmen broomball team. They won the Ontario National Qualifier in Barrie before Christmas and will travel to Leduc. Alberta at the end ol March for the Canadian National Broomball tournament. The players, aged 16-19. are hoping to raise funds through various rallies and breakfasts. Area young people involved with the team include Matt Shortreed, Nathan Hubbard and Rob flunking as coaches and Adam McClure. Steven McNichol, Raymond deBoer and Mike DeWecrd as players. Congratulations to Betty McCall who celebrated her 85th birthday with a party at Maple Villa on Dec. 30. Family members, including daughter Beverly; grandson, Ron and wife Nicole and family Ashley, Brett and Allison; grandson, Chris and wife Lisa, hosted the come-and-go tea in the common room. Sister-in-law, Clara Petrie, was able to attend for awhile and an earlier visit by John and Doug Currie of Caledon, made for a special day for Betty. ‘Citizen’ welcomes Jim Brown to newspaper team The Citizen publisher Keith Roulston is pleased to announce that Jim Brown ol Wingham has been hired as a part-time reporter with the newspaper. Welcome Jim Brown of Wingham has joined the staff of The Citizen as reporter/photographer. M-T council briefs O’Krafka responds to several issues Public Works Co-ordinator Barry O’Krafka was questioned on a number of issues during the Dec. 16 meeting of Morris-Turnberry council. Councillor Lynn Hoy questioned O’Krafka on the account listing for the transmission on the municipal truck and also had questions regarding an incident with a milk truck on Walton Road at Martin Line Council also questioned O’Krafka on the kilometre distance on two ol the municipal trucks. O’Krafka said the ice blading had not been done al the time ol the problem with the milk truck, as there was no grader available. Hoy was also concerned about the problem with snowplowing at a lawn on Maple Street and Nichol Line. Deputy-Mayor Bill Thompson said complaints must be made in writing, which was not done in a recent incident regarding a road employee. O’Krafka indicated he had a meeting with the owner of the Woolcock pit scheduled for the week of Dec. 2L 2004. *** Council was to engage Jack Shaw to clean up the area of the Johnston Church stones, at the Bluevale Cemetery, in the spring. *** Two drainage requests were approved by council. They were for the McCutcheon drain at the north part of Lot 19 of Concession 6 and the Cardiff drain at the south part of Lot 23 of Cone. 5. Both drains are in the Morris ward. *** Morris-Turnberry council endorsed resolutions from the Township of Essa and the Municipality of West Nipissing regarding the sharing of gas tax revenues. Hoy was appointed to the North Huron Economic Development committee. Council agreed to pay $500 for one-eighth of the space in the committee’s brochure being completed. BUY? SELL?
