Junior Gamblers record shutout On Sunday the Blyth Junior Girls broomball team, the Gamblers, unbeaten this season, travelled to Palmerston. There was seme concern before the start of the game with a number of players missing including their goalie. Chantal Warwick stepped in to play goal. The game started out fast paced with end-to-end action. Blyth got the first break when Brittany Bos picked up the ball near the red line and worked her way through a couple Palmerston defenders and drove the ball deep into the Palmerston net. The next goal came with Niki Beyersbergen digging the ball out of the corner to give it over to Aislinn Bremner who passed to Hailey Pavao for the shot into the net. Warwick was doing a stand-up job in net with help from her defence Larissa Jenkins and Correena Otten who were able to keep Blyth in the lead going into the second half. Blyth just seemed to get stronger as the game went on, and the scoring continued in the second half. Bremner passed to Bos right in front of the net, her shot was blocked only to be picked up by Katelyn Roetcisoender who stuffed it into the corner of the net. The last goal came late in the game with Palmerston pulling their goalie to have six attackers. A shot from Bos at the blue line was deflected by Beyersbergen over to Roetcisoender who dumped it into the empty net. Warwick recorded a shutout for her efforts and the Junior Gamblers remain undefeated. C. Bos records two shutouts On Dec. 18 the Mildmay PeeWee Blacks braved the icy roads and came to Blyth to play the Dynamites broomball team. This game saw play in both ends of the ice rink. Both teams had many scoring opportunities, but thanks to some great saves from the goalies the game ended in a scoreless tie, forcing it into overtime. There was lots of action in front of the Mildmay net in the last few seconds of overtime. Blyth’s Nadine Otten passed the ball from behind the net to Morgan Bos. Bos moved the ball towards the net and Brent Drost lapped the ball into Mildmay’s net for a 1-0 victory for Blyth. Courtney Bos played a very good game as goalkeeper to earn Blyth’s shutout. On Dec. 2 the Blyth Dynamites travelled to Seaforth. During the first period, the action was a little slow from both teams. Towards the end of the first period Drost made a pass to M. Bos‘for her first goal of the season. In the second period, defense player Chad Gorel made an excellent pass to forward Jessica Kuik, who moved the ball to Drost for Blyth’s second goal. Greg Roetcisoender scored the final goal of the game on a pass from forwards Laura Dykstra and Zachary Drost. Dykstra attempted to score a goal on the same shift, unfortunately the ball went into the net, off her foot, so the goal could not be counted. Seaforth’s goaltender made several good saves throughout the game. The final score was 3-0 in Blyth’s favour. Goaltender C. Bos worked hard to earn a shutout for Blyth.
