London man wins WIN WIN
Bill Rodney of London was the
Grand Prize Winner of $35,000 in
the sixth and final Blyth Bulldogs
WIN! WIN! Sweepstakes. The
grand prize draw was held
Christmas Day.
"We started the draw six years ago
as a way to raise significant money
in the name of Blyth Bulldogs
hockey. It seemed obvious to us that
the people who use the arena and
community centre should show
enough interest in it to make
something happen” said Todd
MacDonald, one of the founders of
the sweepstakes. “We began with
three objectives: to raise awareness
of the serious need for renovations at
the arena; to pledge a significant

“We appreciate the volunteer
efforts of so many people during the
past six years. Without the
generosity and support of silent
sponsors (who covered all printing,
postage, advertising and
administrative costs) and the co
operation of ticket sellers and buyers
across Ontario this fundraiser would
not have happened” said Steven
Sparling, a founder of the

GEMS
host
Stomppot
supper
GEMS hosted the annual
Stomppot supper Nov. 12. Three
hundred people attended for this
traditional Dutch dish made of
mashed potatoes and kale or carrots.
Sausages, salads and many desserts
were also available.
Most of the food for this
fundraising, family event was
donated. The money that was raised
is to help offset the cost of running
the GEMS program, such as supplies
for the crafts and a Shine magazine
the girls receive every month.
Special outings are always a
favourite. Dec. 15, the GEMS girls
went on a trip to Huronlea in
Brussels to visit with the residents.
The girls had an opportunity to play
their instruments or do a skit and
some read poems.
At the end of the evening every
senior received a gift that was made
by a GEM on their craft night.
Later, the girls met back at the
Blyth Christian Reformed Church
for their own party and gift
exchange.
The next GEMS night starts again
on Jan. 5 at 7:30 p.m. Anyone
wishing to join is most welcome.
