The greater pert of the water rclnainine in the Wells sat present is surface water, and consequently more or less impregnated with vegetable matter. If this water is allowed to re• main in the wells the warn weather of July and August will breed in it the germs of disease, and its use by the people will be almost certain to spread typhoid fever. -Some idea of the loss the county will sumteia this year by the destruct- ion of the fruit crop may be gathered from the extensive business transacted last year by two persons alone, Messrs. The new system by which register- ed letters are only sent on trains with mail clerks and postal cars, instead of closed bags, will come into force on August 1st. Under this new system there will be a personal responsibility for the posting of the registered letter until its delivery. The mail clerks at the office give a receipt to the sender, and in return get one from the clerk on the train, or forward them in a seal- ed packet to the postmaster, and get an acknowledgement in return. While, this plan may delay the delivery of the registered letters, it will provide secur- ity for their ecur-ityfortheir delivery.
