1)n:t t Sin: -"Truth is mighty and
will prevail." This is an old proverb
but as true as a problem in Euclid.
Not one of the stattetnents 1 mole in
your issue of a few weeks ago concern-
ing the Clinton News Record, have
been denied, but instead the chief editor
indulges in a number of vulgar epi
thets so common to himself and unbe-
coming to a' newspaper in order to
defend himself. It is equally admitted
that when an editor begins to call ugly
names when in a controversy he is
fairly beaten, and that, is certainly
true in this case. The trouble is, the
statements made were too true for the
editor and he did not care for the public
to read them. Thanking you for the
space, 1 am yours &c.,

Mr. John Stewart got into quite a

taking to float logs down the
mighty Sauble. The rains of the prev-

an extent as to make it overflow its
banks and it was about an average of
150 yds. wide. The logs .floated down
at a rapid. rate until about straight be-
hind the village when they came in
contact, with a tree and stuck. John
had to swim about 100 yds., to shore
and he says this will be his last exper-
ience in th tt line.

After all the credit tha Ailsa Craig
boys deserve for their grand playing
in Parkhill on the 24th of May, scar-
cely one frolnt that place could come out
and say "well clone." Mr. J. M. Dull,
manager of Bank of },Commerce, Park-
hill, was about the only in the whole
place who did say so, and the deserves
credit for the way he fought against
the committee for trying to make the
Judges change their decision, after,
giving the prize to Ailsa Craig. The
Parkhill papers carne out on Thursday
last, and tried to make out that there
was no band competition, that St. Thom -
Ls was given $35 to go And play for the
day. Forest Band was also hired for
the day,and Ailsa Craig Wats given $25
as as purse, not as first prize. For years
back Parkhill has acted somewhat
mean, with Ailsa Craig but they will
never ha,ve,another chance to use them
as such:
