success for two a -ears, and being an ar-
dent sport, and a great lover of hors4s
he at different times owned some of the
finest race hora:s in America. In the
year.1874 he disposed of his livery
business and invested the whole of his
capital in the celebrated race horse
Blind Jack, and for three years he fol-
lowed the turf with unlimited success.
While in the race business Willie was
one of the shining lights, being honest
and straightforward, and he never
was known to sell a rare. He always
rode his own horse. being one of the
finest jockeys in the country. In the
fall of the year, 1877, he. dispssed of his
celebrated horse to William Donley for
a, large amount, and rented the, hotel
"Rest for the Weary" at Bayhans corn-
ers, in the township of Biddulph. This
place he ran for two years, when he
sold out and. removed to Limerick,
where he ran a large hotel called
"Willie's at Home." He only remained
in Limerick a short time, the soeiety in
that place not being congenial to an
Irish gentleman of his calibre, so the
sold out aud moved fo Lunn, where he
rented the International Hotel from
Mr. Levett. During all this time Wil-
lie's fondness for horses increased, and
he always kept a fast one ht his barn.
He only remained. in the Interna.tional ses
a short time,' when he purchased that
. fine property the "Beyal,";110iir occupi-
ed by Mr: Isaac Hodgius, Which. lie ran.
with great suecess for several years.
He then disposed of the Royal to Mr.
Creighton and bought the Western.
