At the Branch
Legion holds annual Christmas draws
By Jo-Ann McDonald
The Brussels Legion Branch held
its annual Christmas draws on
Saturday with a good crowd of
nearly 50 people in attendance.
The many great prizes of hams,
large shrimp rings, pumpernickel
and dip, taco dip and breakfast
packages seemed to please
everyone. The chicken wings and
fries were a hit with most everyone
ordering from cooks Jim and
Christopher Brown, Catrina Josling
and Jo-Ann McDonald.
The draw committee of Sandra
Josling, Lisa Glanville, Devon
Josling and Anne Pelletier did a
great job selling tickets and
organizing the prizes.
The Friday night supper was
turkey dinner with the turkey
donated by Comrades Lisa Glanville
and Jo-Ann McDonald.
This week is the annual Christmas
potluck at 6 p.m. Bring along a main
course or a dessert. We also have the
$10 mystery gift exchange. Anyone
can participate and if you bring a
gift you will go home with a gift.
It's an evening of lighthearted fun
before the start of the Christmas
weekend.
The Sunday night dance saw over
100 people enjoy the music of the
Country Versatiles. The next dance
is Dec. 31.
The Branch will be open
downstairs for anyone looking for a
place to go. There will be darts,
euchre and light lunch available. It
will open at 7 p.m. and close in the
new year.
The Thursday night darts had
eight players taking aim at the
boards. The first-place team was Jim
Brown and Sandra Josling. Second
place went to Rob Burkholder and
Gord Jacklin. The high start was by
Catrina Josling shooting 84 for the
ladies and Gord Jacklin shooting 74
for the men. The high shot of the
night was by Rob with a 125.
Join in any Thursday for darts at 8
p.m. and have some fun.
Our wishes for a speedy recovery
are sent out to Comrade Ross
Procter who is a patient in Wingham
Hospital.
Our condolences are sent to
Comrade Harry Smith and family on
the loss of a wife and mother, Grace
Smith.
The scrapbook for 2005-2006
Brussels Branch 218 is now at the

and Ray and Shirley Gilders.

Stratford Festival of Canada's new
artistic team is busy laying the
groundwork for the 2008 season.
Though their first and eagerly
anticipated playbill will not be
announced until the summer of
2007, the three artistic directors
Marti Maraden, Don Shipley and
Des McAnuff working with general
director Antoni Cimolino have been
charting the course to fulfill the
Festival's new artistic vision. "We
have three very clear objectives that
I laid out when I took on this role",
said Cimolino, "Re-dedicating the
Festival to the classics, making a
serious investment in our artists
because they are our future and
opening the Festival's doors even
wider to diverse influences by
reaching out to various theatres from
the regional to international level."
As the first step in realizing this
vision, Maraden and Shipley will
conduct a national audition tour,
visiting several major Canadian
cities beginning in the month of
January.
Maraden, Shipley and McAnuff
were working' on different projects
around the world just before joining
the Stratford Festival. Over the last
few months they have been speaking
with various Canadian theatre

communities and this trip will

Shipley said, "This is a great
opportunity for us to reacquaint
ourselves with the Canada's vast and
diverse talent pool."
Shipley came to the Stratford
Festival from Ireland, where he was
the artistic director and CEO at the
Dublin International Theatre
Festival.
Maraden recently completed an
eight-year term as the artistic
director for English Theatre at the
National Arts Centre in Ottawa.
McAnuff's Jersey Boys won the
Tony Award for Best Musical earlier
this year. He recently stepped down
as the artistic director of the La Jolla
Playhouse in California.
