THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 21, 2006. OWhat a great week of weather last week. No reason Christmas shopping couldn't get done. Merry Christmas to all and Happy New Year to all my Walton and area readers. I appreciate everyone's input for the column and to those who mention how much they enjoy the news and the paper. Even those who play "zipper the lips" when Iii around have admitted they enjoy the column. Neil and Marie McGavin have a little farther to travel to visit with youngest daughter Heather . and family from now on. Bryan, Heather, Hayden, Jessica, Jared and Ella Kelso have moved to North Bay. Bryan has a new job there and has been there for a short time already. Now the family has arrived. The trucks were loaded Saturday and started off for North Bay. Heather and the kids stayed at Neil and Marie's Saturday night, then they all left on Sunday at 11:15 a.m. and by 4 p.m. were at the new home. It's always exciting for children at a new house. Bryon and new North Bay friends had beds and things already in place for the family. There were several Walton and area folks travelling to Stratford to celebrate with Harry Nesbitt on the occasion on his 80th birthday. The crowd enjoyed an afternoon at the Victorian Inn on the Park for an open house. A really wonderful display of pictures of Harry's life was put together by wife Mabel for all to enjoy. Following the open house, family and friends gathered for a meal, during which some of Harry and Mabel's sons shared some funny stories of growing up around Harry. Happy Birthday wishes to you Harry from your Walton friends unable to attend. Stratford was a popular destination on the weekend, as the employees and significant others of the Walton Inn staff and Graeme and Helen Craig._ went for their Christmas party. They went to the Stratford Festival Theatre to enjoy Christmas with the Von Trapp Family concert. Those involved in this musical presentation are -the great-grandchildren of the original VonTrapp family. They performed many Christmas songs as well as songs from The Sound of Music. Following the _afternoon performance, the 12 enjoyed dinner at the Swiss Chalet. The Walton Women's Institute enjoyed a dinner meeting at Peggoty's in Seaforth last week. The seven members in attendance had dinner, exchanged Christmas gifts and discussed business matters concerning the Hall. They had an enjoyable afternoon together. Parrish and Heimbecker of Walton was the place to be for farmers on Thursday. They met in the morning for presentations by various company representatives, then had lunch. The Walton Hall board served a roast pork dinner to the over 50 people present. The help, which included Judy Lee, Mary and Christopher Bernard and myself, had a good time together looking after the meal. Our sympathy is extended to Donna and Jack Knight and family on the passing of Donna's sister Pearl from Kitchener. The Walton Hall was the place for a Christmas gathering of the Heibein family. The family had a dinner and afternoon . together on Saturday. Congratulations to Walton's Barmy Tech and Dorothy Cummings on her award from the Huron Manufacturing Association for the corporate citizenship award. Barmy Tech is an industrial sewing centre located in the former Walton School now the Walton Venture Centre. The Walton Little School and an agricultural organization also have space at the centre. Barmy Tech manufactures environmentally-responsible cloth bags, aprons, and several other items using vegetable ink dyes. They also can sew those large and awkward items that need repair. Fire has struck again in the Walton area. This past weekend, a shed on the farm of Graeme and Helen Craig took fire while the family was away. Fire trucks arrived on the scene but were unable to save the structure or anything stored inside. Graeme indicated that the cause was still unknown. Thankfully there was no damage to surrounding buildings. Greeting members and friends of Duff's United Church, Walton were Lorne and Bonnie Glanville on the Advent Sunday of Joy. The candles were lit by Brian and Shelley McGavin and family, Brandon, Abby, and Tyson. The children celebrated in song with, I've Got Joy, Down in My Heart. Added musical accompaniment was provided by Marjorie Huether at the piano and Phyllis Mitchell playing violin throughout the service. Terry Clarkson was the scripture reader. Gail Clarkson's message was entitled Unpacking Guatemala — Lifting Our Voices Together in Joy. The offering was collected by Murray Dennis and Lorne Glanville. The Christmas Eve Day service is at the regular 9:30 a.m. time and the Christmas Eve service is at 7:30 p.m. Annual reports are due to Monique by Dec. 24 and the deadline for bulletin items is Wednesday by 5 p.m., also to Monique. A new UCW secretary is still needed. Duff's annual meeting is on Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. The Sunday school appreciates the support in purchasing mint smoothies. Money raised goes to the purchase of the curriculum and $100 is donated to the Mission and Service Fund. Hooray for Christmas Students celebrate at Grey Central Public School's Christmas concert, with good reason; there isn't much school left.
