explained the success of the 2006
season by praising the Blyth
audience.
Stompin' Tom made us feel
unusually patriotic and renewed our
sense that distinctly Canadian
culture must be celebrated. Lost Heir
turned the mirror on the very act of
creating theatre and how it has the
power to both wound and heal.
Another Season's Harvest paid
tribute to Canadian farmers who
cannot catch a break and they
showed their appreciation in spades.
Schoolhouse struck a chord
particularly with seniors who mourn
the loss of our sense of community.
The audience who saw The Ballad of
gift from the Legion Auxiliary.
The next euchre will be Jan. 15 at
7:30 p.m. in the Legion Hall.

Child.

Blyth Festival hosted 12
fundraising and special events
during the 2006 season. They
involved artistic programming, a
celebration of our history, arts
education activities, community
outreach, great entertainment,
sponsorship and revenue generation.
With 130 active volunteers, over
children's view of what Heaven
would look like, with clouds and
stars hung across the church.
2900 hours were contributed to the
theatre through ushering and
working behind the scenes on these
special events.
One of the highlights of the 2006
season included the Blyth Festival's
100th world premiere. On the
opening night of Schoolhouse by
Leanna Brodie on Aug. 11, former
artistic directors Janet Amos,
Katherine Kaszas and James Roy
joined Coates and other special
guests to mark the special occasion.
Taking part in the evening's
celebration were John Brotman,
executive director of the Ontario
Arts Council, the Blyth Festival Art
Gallery who opened a new
exhibition of paintings by Tim
Murton in the Bainton Gallery; the
Blyth Festival Singers who
performed on the front lawn before
the show and music and dancing
after the performance of
Schoolhouse with the cast, crew and
community.
