Stompin' Tom made us feel unusually patriotic and renewed our sense that distinctly Canadian culture must be celebrated. Lost Heir turned the mirror on the very act of creating theatre and how it has the power to both wound and heal. Another Season's Harvest paid tribute to Canadian farmers who cannot catch a break and they showed their appreciation in spades. Schoolhouse struck a chord particularly with seniors who mourn the loss of our sense of community. The audience who saw The Ballad of gift from the Legion Auxiliary. The next euchre will be Jan. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Legion Hall. BLYTH UNITED CHURCH Greeting at Blyth United Church on Sunday, Dec. 17 were Enid MacDonald and Randy Fraser. Guest pianist was Amanda Schwartzentruber. Ushering were Rob Mason, Brenda Brooks, Myrtle and Larry Badley. The Christmas eve service is at 9 p.m. and there is a potluck lunch that Will follow the service on Dec. 31. Lorna Fraser welcomed everyone to the Sunday school's Christmas pageant, The Birth of the Christ Child. Those taking the main parts were Jo Hakkers, Bryce Glousher, Kelsey Kerr, Justin Button and Brett Glousher. The rest of the Sunday school children were shepherds and angels. The choir assisted the children with the singing. The parents of the children decorated the church with the BUY? SELL? TRY CLASSIFIED Stompin' Tom were deeply touched by the performance of Randy Hughson as the "Man of the Land" and know why he is one of this country's finest actors. Randy returns here next season, featured in The Ballad of Stompin' Tom in September". Tickets are on sale now to the revival of this hit show. Blyth Festival hosted 12 fundraising and special events during the 2006 season. They involved artistic programming, a celebration of our history, arts education activities, community outreach, great entertainment, sponsorship and revenue generation. With 130 active volunteers, over children's view of what Heaven would look like, with clouds and stars hung across the church. 2900 hours were contributed to the theatre through ushering and working behind the scenes on these special events. One of the highlights of the 2006 season included the Blyth Festival's 100th world premiere. On the opening night of Schoolhouse by Leanna Brodie on Aug. 11, former artistic directors Janet Amos, Katherine Kaszas and James Roy joined Coates and other special guests to mark the special occasion. Taking part in the evening's celebration were John Brotman, executive director of the Ontario Arts Council, the Blyth Festival Art Gallery who opened a new exhibition of paintings by Tim Murton in the Bainton Gallery; the Blyth Festival Singers who performed on the front lawn before the show and music and dancing after the performance of Schoolhouse with the cast, crew and community.
