In the ladies Tuesday league at the Wingham Curling Club Kayla Bishop was a 9-4 winner over Jenn Elston's foursome. Amy Miller scored an 8-2 victory over Sandra Morrison. On ice two Joyce Vincent showed no mercy as she swept Mary Henry to the tune of 10-2. *** In the Tuesday men's competitive league Don Edgar was a 9-3 winner over Aart DeVos and Calvin Ruttan defeated Shawn Cottrill by the same score. Russ Taylor downed Earl Fitch and Bill DeVos was winner over Rob Middleton. *** In the Wednesday mixed league scores were rather one-sided as John Dailleboust beat Steve Burke 9-4, Aart DeVos was a 10-1 winner over Tammy Adams, Earl Fitch was 8-2 over Wayne Horton and Leanne Elston continued her winning ways with a 9-3 victory over Dean Newson. *** In the Thursday mixed league both McDonald teams recorded wins with Bill McDonald beating Mike Cottrill 9-4 and Cole This weekend the Saugeen Maitland AA Midget girl's were on the road, travelling to Chatham and Burlington for two division crossover games. With several of the girls falling ill, the team found themselves short staffed and in for a tiring two games. Saturday's game was played in Chatham against the Chatham Outlaw Midget AA squad. The game got off to a shaky start, with scrambles all over the ice. Unfortunately, Chatham was able to capitalize on a particularly large jumble in front of the Maitland net, and the girls found themselves down 1-0. Despite some of the team experiencing difficulties with their equipment, and facing fatigue the girls continued to battle hard keeping Chatham to one goal after two periods of play. Finally, just seconds into the third, Victoria Bertrand of Port Elgin put her excellent hand eye co-ordination on display, knocking a clearing attempt out of mid-air and delivering a pass to the tape of Tammy Freiburger of Wingham. Freiburger found Kendall Whitfield of Blyth who wasted no time, one-timing the puck top shelf where they keep the peanut butter. The 1-1 would prove to be the final score, thanks to Victoria Rumph of Drayton who came up big in the Maitland net to hold on to the tie. It was quiet on Sunday in the Maitland dressing room prior to the game; most of the girls were trying to save up whatever energy they had left. They hit the ice flying, but Blyth Tyke Is undefeated Blyth Tyke Is travelled to Elma Logan this weekend to complete their first round of games with this year's competition and skated away with an 8-3 victory to remain undefeated. Blyth started early with Morgan Howson scoring assisted by Cody Treble. Chad Treble picked up his first of three goals with an assist to, Parker Gibbings. Craig Raynard Continued on page 10 McDonald downing Elliott Miller 10-3. Both Johnston teams went down to defeat as Larry Robinson beat Larry Johnston 11-6 and Dave Johnston was on the low end of a 9-4 game with Tim Coultes. *** In the daytime league on Monday, Irving Elliott edged Nelson Frank 6-5 and Wendell Stamper was 6-3 winner over Bill Deans. The other two morning games were really one-sided with John Mann the victor over Jim Coultes and Mac Inglis the victor over Norm Fairies. In afternoon action there was found that Burlington was going to be a tough match up. Scoreless after the first, the girls landed themselves into some penalty trouble early in the second. With three of their teammates cheering them on from the sin bin, the girls were able to play strong defence and hold Burlington at bay. Receiving some reassuring words from their coaches during the flood the girls launched an aggressive attack in the third. Unfortunately, this aggression led to more penalty trouble. Despite being shorthanded with just over four minutes to go, Freiburger managed to clear the zone and Bertrand gave chase, proceeding to over take a Burlington defender and fool the goaltender on the glove side. Fourteen seconds later, Freiburger decided to re-enact Bertrand's rush, streaking down the right side and popping one in glove side while short handed. only one close game as Ivan Dow edged Bruce Robertson 5-3. Stewart Leedhaes foursome almost went off the scoreboard with a 16-2 win over Ron McMichael and Les Shaw kept his undefeated record intact with a convincing 15-2 win over Lloyd Wheeler. *** In the Daytime league on Thursday, Bill Deans got back in the win column with an 8-4 victory over Lloyd Wheeler. Ivan Dow had a very convincing 14-5 win over Ron McMichael. Once again Les Shaw kept his undefeated string going with a 10-1 shelling of Jim Coultes. Mac Inglis and Stewart Leedham had -a real battle going with Mac edging Stewart 5-4. In afternoon curling Bruce Robertson edged Nelson Frank 8-7. John Mann recorded an 11-5 victory over a skip-missing Norm Fairies rink. On ice one it was one of those games which no one enjoys as Irving Elliott's rink were certainly fine tuned with an 18-1 win over Wendell Stamper. Thursday, Dec. 14 is the daytime curlers Christmas feast with sittings at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. With a minute left and several of the girls back in the box, Burlington pulled their goaltender to give them a six player to three advantage. Although significantly outnumbered, Kelsey VanderVeen of Lucknow was able to get control of a loose puck and fire it the length of the ice into the open net, foiling Burlington's plans to tie it up. The girls would hold on to the shutout, triumphing over Burlington 3-0v. Honourable mentions on the weekend go out to Hilary McDonagh and Kathryn Roy for stepping up and playing a foreign position, and to centres Whitfield and Dru Austin of Goderich and defenders Brittney Peters of Blyth, Molly McNulty of Kincardine, VanderVeen, and Kassie Avery of the Boondocks for handling the excess ice time and battling through fatigue. On the attack It was Silver Stick time in Blyth again this past weekend. The Atom teams from Flesherton and Shallow Lake faced off Saturday.
