PAGE 2.THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2006.
The festive season continues. The
addition of the snow last week made
the words to some of the carols go a
little better as singing in
celebrations took place in our
community and beyond. Weather
details just make the party more
attractive.
As families expand and distances
increase the timing of gatherings
requires more attention to detail.
The weekends of December are
filled with family, friends and work
celebrations. It's mind over matter
but the white stuff in the air just
makes the preparations and
celebrations for Christmas better.
The concerts continue with dates
and times shared for getting to the
right ones at the right times.
Hopefully the dates don't clash too
badly for you in the next couple of
weeks. Like all traditions the
Christmas concert for the school
kids is a memory maker and each
year and each child will have their
own twist on the age-old custom of
celebrating this happy season with
their peers. Kids and Christmas
continue to make the rest of us feel
better as they do their parts while
smiling family looks on all the while
remembering another time and
place. Traditions have a special spot
in life.
The church choirs . of our
community shared their talents and
selections on Sunday evening at the
United Church. Each choir offered
its, gifts for the enjoyment of a full
house. Voices raised in song from
many composers with a variety of
voice ranges was a delight.
The addition this year of a band
with accordions, violins,
saxophone, piano, organ, trumpet,
drums, guitar and mouth organ was
appreciated by the music loving
crowd. The music lessons are
paying off and we loved it. It was a
nice way to move further into
Advent.
St. Ambrose held a successful
bazaar. Hope Lowe won the airplane
ride with Don and Yvonne Martin.
Hugh Ives will be having a 100 lb.
pork barbecue with piggy donated
by Jason and Michelle Terpstra.
Peter Albers Sr. will have fun
spending his $100 credit at
Scrimgeour's store and Madeline
Miller is looking forward to using
two tickets to Blyth Festival. Enjoy.
Wedding celebrations took the
Jack. and Liz Coultes crew to the
sunny south recently. Thirty-nine of
the Daviau and Coultes connection
flew to Punta Cana in the
Dominican Republic to witness the
marriage of their son Blaine to Patti.
The Brussels and Paisley gang
enjoyed the 85° weather.
Sometimes it can be hard to feel
the joy of the season when life
hasn't offered the roses you
expected. If Christmas day is
looming as a lonely one for you, the
Hillers and Dettweilers at the
Mennonite Church invite you to join
them for the noon meal. A turkey is
waiting and potluck fare will
complete the meal. Bev Brown will
be able to answer any of your
questions.
The Homecoming committee is
hard at work getting things in order
for the party next July 27 - 29. To
get the rest of us excited they have
planned a pre-party on Jan. 1. So dig
your skates out and mark it down to
go to the Community Centre
between 1 and 4 to enjoy clowns,
snacks, entertainment and skating.
Get the new year started with a little
community spirit and hear the plans
for the July weekend.
Now back to this week and the
preparations that are required to
keep your mind sane. The ditty
about making a list and checking it
twice is just as important for the
adults in this season as it is for Santa
Claus. So don't lose the list to start
with, then be diligent about
checking it or you may be sorry.
Enjoy the energy and enthusiasm
of the season.
Bye now, Betty G.W.

It was a quiet week at the Brussels
Legion Branch.
The Exel family had their annual
Christmas get-together at the Branch
on Saturday. They enjoyed a meal
together and a great time visiting
with everyone.
There is a Huron • County
Christmas Bureau drop-off box at
the Branch. Donations would be
appreciated.
The Friday night supper of ham
and scalloped potatoes was enjoyed
by a good crowd. This week is
turkey.
On Friday, Dec. 22, the Friday
night supper will be a Christmas
potluck meal. We invite our diners to
add a little something to the meal
and enjoy an array of delicious
food.
Following dinner those wishing
toparticipate in the $10 gift

your gift for man or woman and have
some fun picking and receiving one
back.
There will be no dinner on Dec.
