Bantam Kings play to tie against Palmerston
A small team of boys from the
Blyth Kings broomball team
travelled to Palmerston on Sunday,
Nov. 26 to play a much-larger team
of Bantam players.
With just three minutes of play
passing by on the clock, the Kings
were first to get on the scoreboard.
Winger Andy Bolinger made a nice
pass to teammate Alex Hogan, who
one-timed the ball into Palmerston's
net.
Palmerston had a great scoring
opportunity, but Blyth's keen goalie
caught the ball between his legs
before it could cross the goal line.
The Blyth Rollers travelled to
Palmerston on Sunday, Nov. 26 to
play the Palmerston Polar Bears.
Palmerston received a penalty for
high sticking. Tyler Guetter was first
to score for the Rollers assisted by
Matt Terpstra, during the powerplay.
Forward, Derek DeBoer had a
breakaway, but Palmerston's keen
little goalkeeper deflected the ball.
Tori Kellington was there for the
rebound and scored her first goal of
the season for Blyth. DeBoer was
able to get the ball away from
Palmerston and ran down the ice on
a breakaway and scored for the
Rollers to widen the lead 3-0.
With only five minutes left in the
first period Palmerston was able to
Friday night the Novice Bulls took
on the Elma-Logan Wildcats in front
of a hometown crowd in Brussels.
The Brussels squad played well all
game, with good scoring chances
from Faith Sebastian and Logan
Kellington.
But the competition was stiff with
the Elma-Logan pair of Nick Jung
and Evan Tollenaar combining for
10 points. Goalie Maggie
McDonnell posted a shutout as the
Wildcats took their second game of
the season from the Bulls.
Sunday night the Bulls faced the
Flyers in Drayton and had a
vigorous workout. Kellington and
Nic Zwep each pocketed goals and
kept Brussels in the game with
several scoring chances. Christopher
Van Veen and Seth Nichol played a

The Kings received a two-minute
penalty for high-sticking and were
able to stop their opponents from
scoring on a powerplay.
Palmerston tied up the game on a
rebound shot in the beginning of the
second period.
Bolinger passed the ball to his
teammate and Hogan scored once
again to give the Kings the lead.
Palmerston scored to tie it after a
lot of traffic in front of Blyth's
net.
This is how the game ended. It
was a great contest for both teams.
The teams had a few minutes left
get a goal on a breakaway, to narrow
the gap in the score.
The first goal in the second period
was scored when M. Terpstra made a
nice pass to Guetter who scored his
second goal. Zach Drost recovered
the ball from Palmerston, took a
windup shot from the faceoff circle
and shot the ball into the corner of
the net. Tyler O'Rourke made a nice
pass to DeBoer who scored his
second goal of the game for
Blyth.
With only five minutes left in the
game, Palmerston scored a nice goal
over the Blyth keeper's shoulder.
Curtis Terpstra did a fantastic job
covering the net for Blyth. He
allowed two balls to get past him.
tight checking game on the blue line
while goalie Tiffany Deitner earned
the respect of the opposition with
several brilliant saves.
The Flyers played a strong passing
game. Alexander Seale, Daniel
Kauth and Benjamin Keunen all
picked up hattricks to lead their
team to victory.
on the ice and decided to practise
overtime play. In the six minutes
Palmerston was able to score two
goals.
The Kings played this game with a
lot of heart and determination in
spite of their small numbers. With
such a small team, players absent
and a knee injury occurring during
the game, you could see that they
were losing their energy as the
second period wore on.
The Kings coaches were pleased
with the team's consistent good
effort on the ice.
Tyler Hallahan did an outstanding
The final score was a 6-2 victory for
Blyth.
The Rollers defensive players did
an excellent job keeping the ball out
of ,their end, helping to limit the
shots on their net. Coaches said, all
the players from the Rollers are
working hard at playing their
positions and gaining ball control.
