On Nov. 25 and 26 the Major
Midget Lakers went to Windsor to
play two games against the Jr.
Spitfires. The team continues to be
hampered with injuries, missing five
players on the weekend.
Despite the short bench the Lakers
won Saturday night 5-3.
Kurtis Bartliff got the Lakers on
the scoreboard first with a
powerplay goal early in the first
period. Assists went to Brent Alton
and Jacob Brown.
The Jr. Spitfires answered back
with a powerplay goal of their own
just two minutes later. The two
teams went into the first
intermission deadlocked with one
goal each.
The second period was similar to
the first with each team scoring two
goals. Both Windsor goals came on
the powerplay. Lakers goals were
scored by Bartliff end Matt Chaput.
Assisting on the goals were Vlasis
Aroutzidis and Colin Thompson.
The Lakers came out strong in the
third period scoring two more goals
and were helped out by some
excellent goaltending by Clayton
Fritsch, as he was able to shutout the
Jr. Spitfires in the final frame. Third
period goals were scored by Brown
on the powerplay and Tyler Masson.
Masson assisted on the power play
goal and Bartliff set up the final goal
of the game.
A confident Lakers team held a 3-
2 lead going into the third period on
Sunday, but the short-staffed team
showed signs of fatigue in the third
giving up three goals in the final
period, losing the game 5-4. Scoring
goals for the visitors were Scott
Miller, Jacob Patterson, -.Tyler Van
Drunen, and Bartliff. Picking up
assists were Bartliff, Masson,
Thompson, Chaput, and Dorian
Temlin.
Despite a strong performance,
Evan Groenestege took the loss in
goal.

The Lakers current record is 13-5-
1. They are now four points out of
first place in the west division and
the Alliance AAA midget league,
behind-the London Jr. Knights. The
Major Midgets are ranked 1 1 th in
Ontario and 28th in Canada.
The Lakers have added another
player to their roster. Mark
Hazeleger was in the lineup in both
games this past weekend. Mark is
from Embro and comes to the team
after starting the season with the
Mitchell Jr. D Hawks. He is a
welcome addition to the team and
played with the Minor Midgets last
season.
The team now has a long layoff,
playing their next games on Dec. 16
in Chatham and Dec. 17 at home
against Waterloo. The break is much
needed as this will give the team a
chance to get healthy and prepare for
the fast approaching playoffs.
