It was a solid victory for the Blyth
Bulldog Atom Rep squad when they
travelled to Bayfield to play BCH
Nov. 11.
Blyth kept their hosts off the
scoreboard through two periods,
while scoring four of their own.
Dylan Bromley got things started in
the first, assisted by Brendan
Hallahan.
ODylan Walton set up the next
goal which came off the stick of
Curtis Raynard.
The second-period goals also
came from Raynard and Bromley
with assists going to Walton and
Trystan Weber.
BCH's Wes Armstrong broke
Midget girls win
This weekend the Saugeen
Maitland Midget AA girls travelled
to Barrie to battle it out for Sharkfest
gold.
They kicked off the tournament
early Saturday morning against the
host team.
The game was scoreless going into
the second when Maitland started to
run into some penalty trouble. Barrie
took advantage of this and slid one
in to put them up 1-0.
After regrouping during the flood,
the girls came out determined in the
third. Victoria Bertrand of Port Elgin
found the stick of Tammy Freiburger
of Wingham who tied the game.
Although the girls put forth a strong
effort, Barrie was able to keep them
from netting another and the game
ended tied at 1-1.
Next on the schedule was a squad
from North Bay. The girls had never
goalie Dalton Carey's shutout with a
third-period goal, then scored
another, assisted by Dave Payne to
edge his team closer.
Blyth, however, bulged the twine
three more times to win the game 7-
2. Walton and Kyle Pollard with two
contributed. Assisting were Raynard
with two and Bromley.
It was a much tighter contest the
next day when the team hosted
Minto. Goalie Dustin Treble
recorded a shutout in this close 1=0
effort.
Matt VanWyk scored the lone
Blyth goal in the third period with
assists from Brandon Whitfield and
Dustin Pennington.
Sharkfest gold
played a team from North Bay and
were unsure of what to expect, but
they hit the ice flying.
Part-way through the first, Hillary
McDonagh of Lucknow and
Freiburger got the puck down ice to
Kendall Whitfield of Blyth who
unloaded from outside the blue line.
All the North Bay goaltender could
do was wave as the puck rocketed
past her into the net giving Maitland
a 1-0 lead. Inspired by their captain's
cannon of a shot the girls didn't look
back. Frieburger shovelled another
in for a 2-0 lead.
Naw in order for the girls to finish
first after the round robin and
advance straight to the finals they
had to win by at least three goals.
Finding themselves in the box and
killing off a late penalty, coach Joe
Chaffe of Mitchell was getting ready

An interesting item in early
Wingham curling history has come
to light. It is a solid brass medal
three inches in diameter. On the
front side at the top appears the
words Royal Caledonia Curling
Club and at the bottom 1838 - 1888
Jubilee with a crest bearing a
standing lion with a royal crown
above the crest.
On the reverse side the top half
pictures a group curling on the river
with the bottom half the inscription
Won By Wingham Club over
Listowel inscribed over a pair of
crossed brooms and curling stone.
Checking through Wingham
papers of early 1889 we found the
