Those wishing to test the value of seed grain are invited to send 'samples to the Dir- ector of the Expermentai Farms, Ot- tawa. County Jottings. Abort a year ago the barns of D. D. Wilson, of Seaforth, were burned. Sus- picion pointed to incendiarism. Recent- ly one Henry Haas was arrested in this connection. He'bloeved' and last week Wm. Hodgins, a Parkhill tailor, was also arrested and both men were committed. to Goderieh jail. At their meeting on Monday last the McKillop council decided to submit for. the approval of the ratepayers a by-law to gran a bonus of $1,000 to assist Mr. Thomas Hendry to rebuild his foundry in Seaforth. Judging from the general approval with which the scheme is re- ceived by the people the bylaw wilt be carried. The amount will never be felt by the people, and a foundry would be a very great convenience to them and by having it here every farmer would have in a year more than the cost of the bonus would amount to. The other day a rather peculiar acci- dent happened at Stapleton Salt Works, Clinton, whereby a large three inch steel, shaft was broken. A belt running on a wheel on the shaft was slipping and a workman, _to prevent this, threw in a handful of resin, which tighten&kthe grip of the belt so quickly that it broke thebelt and the shaft also.
