Kay and John Roberts go gold
Good as gold
John and Kay Roberts celebrated 50 years of marriage in
style with many friends and family members there to
congratulate them on the milestone. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
It was a day of celebration on
Saturday as community, friends and
neighbours were on hand to honour
John and Kay Roberts.
Kathleen Valmai Evans of
Woodlands, Guilsfield, Wales, UK,
was the daughter of Thomas and
Mabel Evans. Her groom, John
Gratton Roberts of Prestatyn
N.Wales was the son of Herbert and
Maud Roberts.
The couple married Oct. 20, 1956
in Guilsfield Parish Anglican
Church. The vicar was Rev. David
Rees.
Best man was Rev. John C. Price a
friend of the groom. Bridal
attendants were Pamela Evans, sister
of the bride, Doreen Boycotte, a
college friend and the flowergirl,
Janet Evans, the bride's niece.
The newlyweds honeymooned in
London, England.
Following their marriage they
lived in Newbridge,
Monmouthshire, South Wales.
John was a Presbyterian Minister
of Religion and Kay was a school
teacher.
Eventually after moving to
Canada. John ministered in Belgrave
and Kay helped young minds
flourish at Blyth Public School.
They retired in 1989.
The couple has two children,
Howard Roberts and Alison
Miculan. Their family has grown to
include grandchildren, Alexandra,
Ian, Emma, Evan and Rachel.
The Robertses are very active in
the community. John has continued
to provide supply preaching for
anniversary and other Sundays. Kay
is actively involved with with
Wingham United Church Women,
the Huronlea Auxiliary and the
Belgrave Women's Institute Branch.
She is also an elder of Wingham
United Church.
Both are members of Belgrave
Community Club and have always
enjoyed musical activities.
They both chuckle as they
frequently are asked to 'entertain'
the seniors. On these occasions John
sings solos, accompanied by Kay at
the piano.
They also include a number of
humorous stories which are ususally
very well received.
The couple was feted on their
golden anniversary with a come and
go tea at the Wingham United
Church followed by a family meal at
the Benmiller Inn.
They both "thank God for the
many wonderful years which we
have been blessed to share together."
