THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 2006. ACW candidates proud of community DOUG MILLER A former councillor and reeve of West Wawanosh, Doug Miller, is seeking one of two spots for Wawanosh councillor of A-C-W. Miller decided to run in this election he said, because he has a "keen interest in the opportunity to work towards a community that is desirable to live and work in." The most important issue, he feels, is that council make responsible use of tax dollars. His personal goal is to promote a team approach where the needs of the ratepayers are filled as efficiently as possible. NEIL RINTOUL Running for the Wawanosh ward of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh is incumbent Neil Rintoul. Rintoul has served on council for nine years, six as.deputy-reeve. On county council he has served on a number of committees and is currently chair of the health ambulance and social services committee. Rintoul believes in a strong council to lead the municipality. "I have gained experience locally and at the county level." The most important issue facing council now is road maintenance and rebuilding, he said. Wind turbines and concerns of health issues and setbacks are also key concerns, as is fiscalresponsibility with taxpayers' dollars, said Rintoul. "I am committed to work with council to effectively deal with issues fairly and responsibly. I want our residents to feel proud to live in Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh." KEVIN SHIELS Kevin George Shiels is seeking re-election to council as a representative for West Wawanosh. Shiels, who has already served two terms with Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh and one with West Wawanosh Twp. is seeking re-election because he believe in community involvement. "I enjoy participating on council, working with others and am committeed to building our growing township." The placement of wind turbines and the shortage of rural doctors are key issues facing council. His personal goal is "to use taxpayers dollars wisely, working with council to build a township that residents are proud to live and work in." 49,27,1z, Gordon Brindley is also seeking the position of councillor i in the Wawanosh ward. No information was submitted for this candidate. Reeve Ben Van Diepenbeek was acclaimed for another term. Three are vying for the. two spots in Ashfield, incumbents Marilyn Miltenberg and Carl Sloetjes, and Roger Watt. There are four candidates for Colborne, Connie Black and Barry Millian, and incumbents Doug Fines and Eric C.W. Gosse. The trustees are Jim McDade for the Huron Perth Catholic District School Board and Al Sygrove for the Avon Maitland District School Board. Oooh, cooties!
