Having served one term on Huron East, David
Blaney is seeking re-election as a councillor for
the Brussels ward.
Blaney has been involved in the community
through a number of organizations. He is
currently president of the Brussels Agricultural
Society. He is a member of the Huron County
Historical Society and on the board of managers
for Melville Presbyterian Church.
Blaney has served on several committees and
boards, including personnel, municipal heritage, the Brussels
Medical Dental Building and Brussels Trust Fund. He is chair of
the water and sewer committee.
His priorities are fiscal responsibility, local economic
development and downtown renewal and a fully-accessible
library. Infrastructure renewal with the provincial government
accepting a fair share of the costs for the programs it imposes is
also of utmost importance to him.
LOU MALONEY
Councillor Lou Maloney is seeking
election as mayor of Huron East.
Maloney has been a councillor for the
Seaforth ward for one term. He also has
political experience as a trustee for the
school board, on council for Hibbert
Twp. and West Perth.
Maloney said retirement gives him the
opportunity to devote time to the role of
mayor. He wants to promote a positive
atmosphere.
Helping the rural community, promoting industrial
growth and bringing jobs to Huron East are priorities.
Health care is a big focus. Maloney said when
Seaforth's Family Health Team is up and running it will
help with the physician problem. A clinic will be opened
in Brussels. "I will be responsible and listen to all your
concerns. I will work hard to see that every ward will be
proud to be a part of Huron East. "
JOE SEILI
Incumbent mayor Joe Seili is seeking
re-election in Huron East.
Having served two terms as a councillor
for Brussels, Seili then served a term on
Huron East council before running for
mayor. He has also been president of the
Brussels Optimists.
Seili decided to seek another term as he
had unfinished goals concerning
affordable residential developthent for
families and seniors, the Brussels library
and the beef packing plant.
The most important issue is "to continue to make Huron
East the best place to live, work and play by thinking
outside the box."
Seili's personal goal is a quote from the Optimist Creed.
"To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to greater
achievements in the future and greeting everyone you meet
with a smile."
ALVIN MCLELLAN
Incumbent Grey ward councillor Huron East Alvin
McLellan is seeking a third term. He previously sat on
Grey Twp. council for nine years. He has been on the
BMG rec board for 18 years, 12 as its chairperson, on
the Walton landfill committee and the boards of the
Moncrieff, Cranbrook and Ethel Halls.
McLellan hopes for another term to see that the work
continues on hard surfacing Grey roads, that support is
maintained for the local halls. McLellan would like to
see more business in downtown Brussels and hopes to
maintain service levels within the municipality.
The most important issue currently is how to support the agricultural
sector.
His personal goal is to see that the municipality continues to have the
lowest tax rate in the county.
FRANK STRETTON
Frank Stretton is seeking re-election in the Brussels
ward of Huron East.
Stretton has been a councillor since 2004. He also
served as counc.11or in the Village of Brussels from
1974-1977.
An interest in serving his community is the reason for
seeking the position of councillor.
The most important issue is the challenge of
maintaining services given the cutbacks in provincial
funding without causing any significant increases in the
tax rate.
JOHN HARRISON
Newcomer John Harrison is running for the position of
Brussels ward councillor for Huron East. While Harrison
has no previous experience, he has been involved in a
number of community organizations and committees.
His reason for running for council he said are simply
that Brussels is "important to me as a community as a
whole."
The most important issue is maintaining the benefits
the community already has, the services that residents
don't want to lose. Harrison also wants to try to bring
more business and industry to town.

ORVAL BAUER
A candidate for councillor to represent
the Grey ward of Huron East, Orval
Bauer said he wants to see small issues
taken care of before they become big
problems.
He has served six years on church
council and five years on the Maitland
Conservation Foundation.
Bauer sees industry growth and
employment as key issues, but also has
'nterest in agricultural concerns. "Roads need to be
suitable for large farm machinery." Road shoulders and
old trees need to be looked after, he said.
His personal, goal is to take residents' concerns to council
and be heard.
DALE NEWMAN
Dale Newman is seeking the
position of councillor for the
Grey ward of Huron East. He
has previously served two terms
on Grey Twp. council and is a
past member and chair of the
Brussels, Morris and Grey
Community Centre board.
He wants to return to local
politics and will work to maintain and meet the
needs and services of the municipality at an
affordable cost.
Newman promises to be a team player at council
and ensure that Huron East remains a vibrant
community where people want to work and live.
