Back[road "cum
For those who want to strike out on the backroads of North
Huron, explore these sites -
.Wingham Community Trail
- The Trail begins on Josephine Street (Hwy 4) across the road
from the old train station in Wingham. The 2.5 km trail follows along the
river, crosses into lower Wingham, past Wescast Industries and back to
the starting point and parking lot. Along the way, there are beautiful
perennial beds and riverside scenes to enjoy.
. Wawanosh Valley Conservation Area
- Follow the signs on Hwy 4 between Blyth and Wingham,
(approximately 1.5 miles south of Belgrave) to Nature Centre Road. The
activity centre will not be open for Doors Open but the 3 km loop trail
will be available. Hike along Belgrave Creek, through meadows and
down a steep hill to the cedar lowlands at the river. A boardwalk leads
through the hemlock forest to the upland hardwood/red pine
plantation.
. Blyth Brook Community Greenway Trail
- This 2 km loop trail runs along the former CPR rail lines and
includes a walking trail, fitness trail, fish habitat improvement area and a
butterfly garden. Enter the trail off Hwy 4, at the Bridge, in Blyth.
. Blythe Brook Orchards
- Drive to the southern edge of Blyth on Hwy 4 and turn right
onto Cty Rd 25. Just down the road on the right hand side (1 minute
west) you will find Blythe Brook Orchards. They have a large selection of
apples (definitely try the Honey Crisp apples), Bartlett & Flemish Beauty
pears, apple cider and pick-your-own grapes.
. Belgrave Community Park
- When driving through Belgrave, be sure to check out the
Belgrave Park, located on the west side of Hwy 4. It stands where once
the Belgrave Hotel stood. A lovely community park to take a quick
wander in.
