Knox United celebrates anniversary Anniversary services were held in Knox United Church, Belgrave, on Sunday, Oct. 22, with El ly VanBergen as the guest speaker. The service was opened with several numbers sung by some of the members of the Vacation Bible School and led by Lila Procter. Gloria Dow then spoke to the children with a message on sharing, and urged the children and their parents to donate coins for the Canadian Food Grains project. As an example of sharing she gave two of the children all but three of the tickets for cake and ice cream, and the three to the rest of the choir. She stressed that the two represented Europe and North America, and the rest, all the other countries of the world who have less. They decided they would share their tickets with the rest of the choir and the congregation. VanBergen then gave the call to worship and the congregation affirmed their faith by reading The New Creed. The senior choir sang Come Now and Follow Me, accompanied by Elizabeth Procter. The children's story, told by Van Bergen was about Making a Big Noise. She stressed to them that they were all important, and that they should celebrate things that made them happy, and that even the smallest cap could make a big noise. Mrs. VanBergen's message to the congregation was entitled, Have We Got What It Takes? She asked questions about how people feel about their responsibilities and if they were prepared to carry out their faith promises. She had three members of the congregation, John Nixon, Melanie Pletch and Don Shiell help her with a demonstration of the different types of people in the congregations, by using pairs of socks hung on a clothesline to show how everyone is included and important no matter what gifts they have. During the service t was The October WI meeting was convened by Wilma Higgins and featured Barbara and John Kerr demonstrating rug hooking. She uses dye to obtain the shades she needs. Mr. Kerr uses original designs with older methods and natural dyes. The backing can be burlap, cotton or linen. They had many finished rugs on display.
