Darts resume 'At the Branch'
Shiver, shiver — fall is here. Some
parts of autumn I really, really like.
The cycle of life part I appreciate,
as the period of rest approaches
with the falling leaves, the
shrivelling plants, the stopped
growth — all in preparation for the
next stage of life.
But I really don't like the wet
cold until I finally clue in to get the
proper clothes on — it's fall for
heaven's sake.
There are several stories going
about telling of people who went on
nice October fishing trips to have
them very severely interrupted by
gale force snowstorms. That's not a
pretty picture fishing poles and
boats and whiteouts'.
Motels in Barrie made the fishing
on the French River a little better
say Chris and Jeff. Perhaps they'll
take up knitting next year.
One sweet little boy had the
United Church folk smiling on
Sunday as he got his baptism water
organized to his liking. Ethan
Bradley Hall, son of Don and
Michelle and grandperson in the life
of Jane, was a true gift from God as
he let the Rev. Steven Cox do his
thing until he could get his own wee
hand into the water, then everyone
was happy.
It was good to see Dan and
Michelle as well as Debbie and
family back in our church.
Sandra Cable, our student
minister, was in Listowel looking
after Rev. Cox's congregation that
day.
If you're looking for food next
weekend, the Legion would like
you to come to celebrate with them
and be part of their meat draws or if
you want your food cooked and
ready to eat call the members of
Ethel United and they'll save food
for you for next Sunday. So you
don't have to go hungry either
Saturday or Sunday.
Dig out the mitts and be ready
and then we'll probably have some
nice warm October days.
Enjoy life. You only get one
chance at it.
Bye now,, Betty G.W.

Plans are in place for a great party
on Saturday so come join us at the
Legion to celebrate 75 years of
service with 75 meat draws.
Everyone is welcome and the
entertainment begins at 4:30 p.m.
with John Borton providing music,
song and all-around fun.
A bonus for Legion members
paying their 2007 dues on Saturday,
is a special draw to win their 2008
dues. The support of the local
businesses has been fantastic and we
hope that our many sponsors and
their families and employees come
out for an evening of fun.
Draws will be going on
throughout the evening with a total
of 15 draws with five prizes in each
FROM BRUSSELS
By Jo-Ann McDonald
Darts are returning to the Brussels
Legion and start this Thursday at 8
p.m. It's blind mixed darts.
Show up, pay a dollar, (partners
are randomly picked), play and have
fun. There are no assigned teams, no
weekly commitment so show up
when you can. It's just a fun night of
aiming at the boards.
The Friday night supper of roast
pork saw a good crowd on hand.
This week it's roast beef on the
menu.
It was District convention in
Kincardine this weekend. President
Jo-Ann McDonald attended the
Saturday venue of the president's
meeting and on Sunday Comrades
Deb Cann and Glenn Bridge also
attended.
Comrade Gord Nichol is a patient
draw.
Comrades are reminded that the
fall sports sheets are up and sign up
now if you wish to participate in
darts, curling or crib.
