Locals among CHSS award recipients for Christmas _to Yo,r Your Kids Students of Central Huron Secondary School received recognition for academic achievements at the annual commencement ceremonies on Friday night. Many locals were among -the recipients including multiple senior division award winner Lindsay Gibson. A former Hullett Central School pupil, Gibson was awarded the Dr. Carolyn J. Wood award for proficiency in biology 3U, the Cargill Ltd. award for proficiency in chemistry 3U, Judge and Mrs. Frank Fingland memorial award for proficiency in French 3U and the B&M Fine Furniture award for proficiency in family studies._ Gibson was also presented with the Clinton and District Kinsmen Club award for -proficiency in math 4U calculus and a W.D. Fair scholarship for general proficiency. John Weiler received the proficiency in physics 4U, while his brother Lawrence earned the Dr. Grant Lee award for proficiency in physics 3U. The senior visual arts award was presented to Nikki Vander Veen. Stephanie Sanderson was presented with the Canadian Parents for French award for proficiency in French 4U as well as the Clinton Kinettes volunteerism award. Sanderson was also one of our Norman Parks Garrett memorial scholarship recipients. This is presented to Blyth students pursuing post-secondary education. The others were Sean Bechtel, Brittany Cook and Jeff Elliott. • Bechtel also got the math teachers award for proficiency in Grade 12 college math. Cook received the Heartland Credit Union Businesses award for a student continuing post-secondary education in a business field. The Radar Auto Parts Ltd. award was presented to Adam McClure for proficiency in transportation technology (theory). Kaitlyn Toll was awarded the Howick Mutual Insurance Company business scholarship for proficiency in several business subjects. Lauren Snell was a recipient of an Ontario Co-operative Education Association award. This is for proficiency in co-operative Dietz and Marcie McClure were given the Seaforth Hospital Auxiliary award. This is presented to students continuing their education in the health care field. Among the Elizabeth Scott bursarie recipients was Lindsay McNichol. In the general proficiency awards, for year four, Alyssa Gross was given the Murphy Bus Lines award. Laura Black received the Haugh- McNaughton memorial scholarship as the students with the highest average in Grade 11, with their core program at the university level. She was alSo a recipient of a Devereaux Murray law award, presented ,to students with the highest standing in senior law. Leeming memorial scholarships are given to the students with the highest averages in Grades 9-12. Among the winners were Bethany Black and Laura Black. Lisa Root was the Grade 12 student who showed the most care and dedication in the study of history. For this she received the Mackenzie Fisher memorial award. The Geoff Banks award for personal integrity went to Adam McClure. This is presented to a student who has best exemplified and :promoted the qualities of goodwill, humour, friendship and respect among the staff and students. Dietz was given the Bill Carnochan memorial award as the Grade 12 student who has demonstrated perseverance, leadership capability and a positive attitude. Laura Black was presented with the Angela Konarski memorial award. The criteria for this is that the recipient be a Grade 11 student who is outgoing, friendly and has demonstrated an interest in helping others through involvement in school and community activities. -Among the recipients of a Norma Jeffrey memorial bursary was Erica Dietz. The Crime Stoppers award is presented to a graduating student who's expressed an interest in law, police and/or security. This year's recipient was Krista Shortreed. Jenna Rinn was the recipient of the Central Huron Secondary School teachers' award. This is presented to a student who makes CHSS a better place through leadership both in and out of the classroom. Among the Ontario scholars were Cook, Gross and Sanderson. These are students who have earned an aggregate of at least 480 marks in any combination of Grade 12 courses, taken over two years that provide a total of six credits. Central Huron scholars, those who have achieved first-class standing by earning a minimum of 80 per cent average over six senior level subjects in their graduation year, included Justin Baarda, Bechtel and Snell. education. Mark Wilbee was presented with a Royal Canadian Legion Brach 156 award, given to grandchildren of a Seaforth Legion member, who • are going on to higher education.
