Ian Alexander VanderMeer passed away quietly on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006 at Children's Hospital of Western Ontario. Ian was two years and three months old. Ian will be forever missed by his parents Jason and Patty VanderMeer of Brussels, his big sister Julia and big brother Tyler. He was the dearly loved grandson of Julie and John Harrison of Brussels and Sharon VanderMeer of Clinton and great- grandson of George and Audrey Koistinen of Sault Ste. Marie. Ian was a special nephew to Katie and John Wilson of Toronto, Tim and Amber Harrison of Gorrie, Tammy Caven of Windsor and Lindsay Caven of Clinton and first cousin of Casey Harrison. Ian will also be missed by his many great-aunts, uncles and cousins. Meeting Ian in Heaven's playground is his cousin Gavin Vader. Ian is also predeceased by several great-grandparents. The family received friends from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Schimanski Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will be conducted from Brussels United Church on Thursday, Oct. 12 at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Brussels Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Ian's memory to the Brussels Fire Department or the Brussels charity The Alzheimer Society of Huron County is hosting an evening with a world-renowned Alzheimer researcher. Dr. JoAnne McLaurin PhD. Associate Professor at the Centre for Research of Neurodegenerative Diseases, will speak at Dementia 2006 on the new research around a vaccine that could halt the progression of the devastating degenerative brain disorder known as Alzheimer's disease. The drug known as scyllo- cyclohexanehexol or AZD-103, was announced in early June at the World Alzheimer Conference in Madrid, Spain and in the on-line journal Nature Medicine. "It not only stops the onset of Alzheimer's in mice but is also of one's choice. Mr. VanCamp was the beloved husband of the former Gladys Campbell. He was the dear father of Nancy and Harold Jardin of Belgrave, Keith and Joyce VanCamp of Cayley, Alberta and Kevin VanCamp of London.
