The annual coat drive by the
Canadian Red Cross is being
conducted this month. This drive
collects coats, hats, mitts, scarves
and winter boots for the less
fortunate in our midst who may
otherwise find it a very cold winter.
Items for kids and adults alike are
needed.
The post office or Radford's Farm
Equipment will be a depot for the

The sun came out finally and gave
all of us another reason to give
thanks this past weekend. Travelling
to be with family and celebrating
this October holiday is always more
enjoyable in good weather. Those
gathered at Londesborough United
Church on Sunday morning enjoyed
the sun streaming in the sanctuary
windows.
The whole building has been
tastefully and seasonally decorated
by Jane Hoggart.
The senior choir offered the
anthem Sing to the Lord of Harvest.
Bert Lyon shared a Minute for
Missions written by a mission and
service worker from the United
Church of Canada. This worker
noted that during his time in China
he most enjoyed the singing in the
churches there. The churches are
simple gathering places but always
crowded and full of singing.
Most attendees are illiterate and
the churches have no hymn books.
So the hymns are taught and sung
from memory.
It was a treat for this person to
hear the joy of faith sung there and
to hear familiar songs sung in a
foreign tongue.
Contributions to the M and S fund
help these Christian churches in
China get established.
There was some discussion about
favourite things for which to be
thankful. Rev. Pat Cook and the boys
+-apd girls at the front agreed God has
given them many blessings. She
urged them to give thanks for all the
wonderful things in their lives every
day of the year.
Rev. Cook reiterated the theme of
bountiful blessings in life in her
message to the adults as well. It is
the Christian duty to be good
disciples and share the news of these
blessings to/with others. By listening
to others' needs, being gracious,
kind and merciful we share our
thanksgiving.
This was the message found as
well in the Old Testament reading of
Deuteronomy 26: 1-11 when the
Israelites offered the first fruits and
tithes to the temple of the first
harvest in the new land. Psalm 100
was the morning's responsive
reading.

The folks at Hullett Central Public
School have already completed one
full month of their year. With all the
extra functions that went on during
September, the month has just sped
by.
Now for October the character
attribute is "empathy" which is
understanding how someone else
feels.
Adults can have difficulty with this
area of life as well and discussions
with the young people in your life
may help everyone to a better
understanding.
The school had a holiday last
Wednesday, a unique weather related
day off. That early morning storm
that passed through the area knocked

service.
Then on Sunday, Oct. 22
Londesborough United will hold its
anniversary service. Rev. Paul Ross
will return to the village for that
service.
Thanksgiving is the theme for the

Admittedly the hydro was on by
time of first bell however these
decisions have to be made quite
early. Water was the cause for the
concern and the decision.
