LABORATORY ACCREDITATION
The Listowel and Wingham Laboratories went through an accreditation process in May
2006 from the Ontario Laboratory accreditation (OLA) division of the Quality Management
Program - Laboratory Services. This peer accreditation assessment was to determine if
the laboratory conforms to the explicit recruitments based on ISO 15189:2003 for Quality
and Competence. The LWHA Laboratories were successful in eaming 5-year Accreditation
Certificates.

the Department. To help decrease the wait times and if your condition is not life threaten-
ing, we are asking you to call if, at all possible, before coming to the hospital and you will
be given a time to be seen by the Doctor in the Emergency Room. Please understand that
Emergencies can still cause delays.

UCW thanks MADD for informative night
The September meeting of the
Knox United Church Women was
held in the basement of the church on
Thursday evening with two
representatives from the board of
MADD and an OPP officer present.
Also present were local teens and
parents.
Muriel Coultes introduced Babara
Rintoul who had set up a display of
information concerning MADD, and
Const. Russ Nesbitt gave a
demonstration of what happens
when a driver is stopped on the road
and considered -to be under the
influence of alcohol.
They discussed the affect an arrest
would have on someone's life as it is
a criminal offence that would be
forever on one's record. This would
effect applications to colleges and
universities and also any future jobs.
Const. Nesbitt explained the cost
of driving again and the increase in
the insurance rates to put a car back
on the road after a drunk-driving
conviction.
Before the teenagers left the
meeting they were given the chance
to try out glasses that were on the
MADD display, which reflected how
their vision is impaired with a small
amount of of alcohol, and compared
how far over the legal limit they
would be. This proved very
interesting not only to the young
people, but the adults as well.
Const. Nesbitt answered several
questions from the parents and
members of the UCW and spoke of
how the presence of drugs was
rising, more than the use of alcohol.
He spoke about the dangers of the
drugs now so readily available, and
encouraged the young people to stay
away from them.
A donation to MADD was given to
Barb for the informative evening
presentation.
The meeting opened with worship
which was conducted by Pat
Hunking and was given on the
scripture about the whole armour of
God. She used hockey equipment in
her meditation to represent the
various uses of the equipment and
why sports players use the many
kinds of equipment for protection.
Brittany Haines sang two musical
numbers, Jesus Take the Wheel and
It's A Wonderful World.
Everyone enjoyed the snacks that
had been prepared, both before the
meeting and a social time after.
Knox United Church Evening
Group met at the home of Mabel
Wheeler on Tuesday night with 11
members answering the roll call with
what they are thankful for.
Pat Hunking welcomed everyone
and thanked Mabel for hosting the
meeting. She read a poem, A
Thankful Heart.
During the business it was
announced that the church
anniversary Sunday, would now be
Oct. 22 with the cold potluck dinner
to follow.
The Huron-Perth UCW Fall Rally
will be held on Monday, Oct. 23 at
Parkview United Church in
Stratford, with registration at 6:30
p.m. It was decided to make meat
pies again on Nov. 28 and 29, and
Barbara Anderson will take orders
for them.
Laura Johnston conducted the
worship which was on the theme of
Thanksgiving. She opened with a
poem, What is Thanksgiving which
was followed by a hymn. Her
meditation was on being thankful.
She closed with prayer.
Mrs. Hunking then presented the
program with a variety of interesting
information, both from her home and
from Huron-Perth Presbytery. Her
family had watched two turkey
vultures nest in her barn over the
summer, and she had photos of them
growing, and also as mature birds
that flew away.
She reported on the work of the
division of World Outreach at
Huron-Perth Presbytery and named
several places that were supported
by Belgrave church as well as those
around us.
Discussion followed on several
items of local news, and the meeting
closed with the benediction and
grace.
Muriel Coultes, Barbara Anderson
and Mrs. Wheeler served lunch after
the group had worked on a contest. A
social time followed.
FROM BELGRAVE
Raising money, eating turkey
People brought pots and dishes covered in towels, braving the windy conditions to the
Belgrave Community Centre on Oct. 4 for the 58th annual Belgrave fowl supper. Judging by
the attendance, the dinner was a success, raising funds for operating costs of the community
centre and minor sports programs. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
So far away from me
The turkey wasn't safe from even the youngest of
carnivores at the 58th annual Belgrave fowl supper. This
little guy had a little further to go to get to his plate. (Shawn
