PAGE 2. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2006.
"Come ye thankful people come
..." should be the song of choice this
week as we finish the leftovers of
Thanksgiving weekend. Family and
friends attended church and
gathered to share the favourite foods
At the Branch
of the season. I hope you
took inventory of your many
blessings.
We live in a bountiful land and
need to give thanks daily for good
food, clean water and a healthy
environment that we generally take
for granted. As we look at the basics
of life we need to do our part to
sustain and improve them for the
next generation. To keep our place
on this earth healthy we need to
support local agriculture keeping
travel fumes down and taste up.
We can be deliberate in our use of
water with awareness for the impact
on others. Drink water from the
taps; it's probably cleaner than the
bottled variety and is much better
for the landfill sites. Also, it will add
a little money to your wallet.
When using your vehicle, idling is
no longer good practice for the
motor or the air around us. Be a
good customer of the thrift shop and
reuse and recycle everything you
can.
Every little thing each one of us
does helps. We live in one world
with many people and the resources
that matter most are the ones that
have no boundaries. So be good to
yourself and watch what you do.
We have another little angel
looking out for us from heaven now.
God needed a sweet smiling boy and
Ian VanderMeer went reluctantly
last Saturday. Ian knew he had a
good thing here with parents Patty
and Jason, siblings Tyler and Julia
and grandparents John and Julie
Harrison, Aunt Katie and Uncle Tim
as well as lots of loving cousins and
friends. His twinkling smile will be
a pleasant memory to hold when
sadness wants to take over.
Death, a part of life, has profound
feelings that go with it. Be aware of
the hurting in others in our midst
and offer your support as freely as
you are able.
Get out and give the leaves a kick.
You may just feel better.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
