`Memories' marks its 11th anniversary
1
1
This year marks the 11th
anniversary of the tribute show that
re-creates CBC's most celebrated
TV show.
The Jubilee which featured
Canada's foremost fiddling group
called The Islanders was on CBC
TV for a total of 11 years from 1958
- 1969 before the show was abruptly
cancelled — coincidentally the same
amber of years that this tribute
show has been touring.
Last year, Huron photographers
participated in a highly successful
show featuring people at work in
this county.
Once again county photographers
are asked to "snap a picture of co-
workers and friends at work,
wherever that may be. Locations
could be in a mine, on a ship, on the
farm and so forth. The worker
should give permission to have his
or her photo taken and shown
publicly, and in many cases the
owner of the business should also
Until Nov. 26, the Bruce County
Museum and Cultural Centre will be
hosting Creative Art...Needles and
Hooks, an exhibition of wearable art
in the Bruce Gallery. Over 50
participants have designed, knitted,
quilted, smocked, hooked, sewed,
painted or artistically created a
garment or accessory, which falls
into the area of wearable.
The exhibition is being organized
by a committee of some of the most
talented quilters and rug hookers in
the Saugeen Shores area. Items have
been selected from artists all across
Ontario, creating an exhibit that is
certainly colourful, one of a kind and
of interest to those who wish to see
garments, accessories and wearable
apparel of original design. The
official exhibit opening will take
place on Oct. 14 from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Refreshments will be provided.
Also on display with Creative
Art...Needles and Hooks, will be the
entry pieces from the Annual
Art/Quilt Challenge. The Art/Quilt
Challenge invites quilters to partner
with an artist of a different medium
To celebrate the anniversary, this
year's Memories of the Islanders and
CBC's Jubilee Show which stops at
Blyth Memorial Hall Oct. 21 will
feature Johnny Forrest who was a
guest on the Don Messer Jubilee for
three years before he became a
permanent member from 1963-
1969. Forrest brought the Scottish
component to the weekly show with
his colourful kilts, his accordion and
his Scottish songs. Thus the theme
give their consent.
'At the opening of the show, in the
Goderich Co-op Gallery in January,
those in attendance will be able to
vote for the Viewers' Choice Award"
stated Carol McDonnell, one of the
curators. "This will be the second
such award in Huron County, as
indeed this is the second such show
in Huron County."
Well-known Seaforth
photographer Ho Dyck was the
winner last year with her photo of
combining in Huron County named
to create the same design. An
example would be a watercolour
artist and quilter, or a woodworker
and quilter, choosing or creating one
design, and then each creating it in
their own medium. This display is
sure to be unique and not to be
missed!
Complementing the above two
exhibits, Threadworks - The Garden
Party, showcasing 60 pieces of
needle art, will be also be on exhibit
in the Bruce Gallery from Oct. 8 to
Nov. 26. The Garden Party is a
travelling exhibit initiated by the
needle art group, Threadworks, from
the Wellington
County/Guelph/Fergus area.
