Dishing it up
It was back to business for volunteers of the Walton 1-10
board as the Sunday roast beef dinners resumed this past
weekend. Marg and Ross Bennett were among those who
turned out to enjoy the home-cooked meal. Funds from the
dinners are going towards a future project. (Vicky Bremner

The Early Years Program at
Walton United Church is going
strong. There are four,to six children
with their caregivers attending each
week.
One activity done in the last
couple of weeks was making Dora
backpacks - a real hit with the
children.
They read the story Dora's
Backpack, how to count in Spanish
and searched for items that began
with the letter B.
They usually make a craft, sing
songs and, play games like Leaf
Hokey Pokey. Pretending to hide in
leaf piles and jump out is enjoyed by
all for a fall game.
There is always room for more
children and caregivers on
Wednesday mornings at 10 a.m. at
Duff's United Church.
'Travelling to Waterloo Theatre
were Patty Banks, Gloria Wilbee
and Heidi McClure: They attended a
musical by Sandy Maaskant entitled
Historical
Society
banquet
in Blyth
The Huron County Historical
Society dinner will be held on
Oct.11 at 7 p.m. The annual fall
dinner meeting will be held at the
Blyth Memorial Hall, Queen Street
(main street) Blyth. It will be
catered by the Blyth Legion
Auxiliary with a roast beef or
chicken entree and all the
trimmings - always a special treat.
Tickets are $20.
Reserve a seat and a great evening
out by calling Ralph Laviolette at
519-440-6206.
The dinner will feature a
presentation by Eric Coates, artistic
director of the Blyth Theatre. He
will tell about the theatre's history
and conduct a tour backstage.
WHAT ARE ASTHMA
TRIGGERS?
Asthma triggers are allergens
and irritants that can create
breathing problems when people
with asthma are exposed to
them. Common triggers include:
• Pollens including tree pollen,
grass pollen arid ragweed
• Cigarette smoke
• Dust and dust mites
• Pets and other animals
• Food allergies
• Weather and air pollution
• Cold air and high humidity
The rain is still falling and making
more, and more farmers more than a
little anxious on when they will get
to the field. Fields of white beans are
looking a little sad and there's lots of
beans ready, so let's all pray for
about a week of good weather.
Congratulations to first-time
grandparents. Jack and Nancy
Lubbers on the birth of a
granddaughter. Proud parents of wee
Janelle Marlene are Jeff and Jen
Pennings.
Congrats to Ron Bennett on
Menopositive. It was performed by
four women.
Visiting with Mary Humphries
were son Bob and Nora. They
accomplished some very important
jobs, some smaller deeds and of
course had a great visit with Mom.
Jeanne Kirkby has added to her
household with the addition of
Charlie, the kitten. Jeanne's golden
lab Molly is scared stiff of the little
one, but Jeanne's sure she will come
around.
Graeme and Helen Craig were off
to the kick-off banquet for the Bruce
Plowing Association. Bruce County
is the host for the 2008 International
Plowing Match and it's never too
early to start the serious planning.
celebrating his 80th birthday last
week. Ron and Pauline enjoyed a
family dinner with children Gary
and Joan and their families in honour
of the occasion.
Members of the Huron Perth
Cattle Feeders Co-operative met at
the Walton Hall for their annual
meeting on Wednesday evening.
Don and Pat Dalton hosted their
customer appreciation day at their
farm on Thursday. Patrons of their
Pioneer seed business were treated
to a pork chop barbecue, great door
prizes and a social time.
Saturday was not a great day for
weather but a great day for more
than 40 teams to participate in the
Motos for Moms, a cure for cancer
fundraiser. It was held at the Lee
motocross track, and there were over
150 participants riding the track,
raising funds and having a great
time. Over $20,000 was raised.
Duff's United Church had a good
crowd in attendance to worship God
in Community. They were greeted to
the service by Don and Monique
Baan and family.
The service was conducted by the
diaconal student supply minister
Gail Clarkson.
The offering was taken by Don
Baan and Brian McGavin.
Coffee and muffins were enjoyed
by all following the service.
There will be a presentation by
Bill and Karen Butt on their ministry
in Mozambique at Belgrave United
Church on Oct. 29 at 2 p.m.
Would you like to join a local
team for Mission and Service
Congrats to all who- took part on
such a miserable day.
Sunday at the Lee farm was an
open practice and demo day with
only a small participation again due
to weather.
Walton Hall had its first of many
upcoming dinners at the hall. There
was only a small crowd in
attendance. Funds need to be raised
for an upcoming major project.
There were some new helpers at
the dinner and Anne Ryan, Patty and
Cassandra Banks and Krista
Shortreed did a great job.
Get-well wishes to Barb Durrell
who has undergone surgery on her
foot. She will be off for quite awhile.
There's another barn missing off
Moncrieff Road but this time due to
people not nature. The old barn was
taken down off one of the Terpstra
(Hulzebos) farms last week for
another change on the line.
Action? Contact Gail Clarkson by
Oct. 15.
The food bank is in desperate need
of supplies and any and all
contributions would be appreciated.
It is Thanksgiving, a time of thanks
and a time for giving. Please help if
you can to give to others who are in
need.
A group from Duff's United
Church Sunday school went on a
field trip to the Seaforth and District
FROM WALTON
Food Bank. The group made a food
donation, toured the .facility' and
helped others stock the shelves. The
children had made fish with coins as
scales and presented them to
Angelina Swart, the food bank co-
ordinator.
Mrs. Swart spoke to the children
on how the facility operates and
answered questions. The children
had a lot of fun while learning about
this great community service.
