Money Tips
(NC) — If you're older, your
children have grown and you
have already built up substantial
equity in your home, you may
want to free up capital by
downsizing. Moving into a
smaller, less expensive home will
provide additional cash for
investment or retirement living
expenses.

I knew that we spend a fair bit of
time commenting on the weather
outside our door but I didn't realize
it was so far spread. There is a
calendar available (for the past 19
years) dealing with the weather
tidbits that are truly Canadian. So
isn't it nice to know that we're not
alone in muttering about the
moisture that's so abundant in our
space just now.
The fear of flying is high on our

The general meeting of the
Brussels Legion was held Tuesday
evening with 16 comrades present.
The motions from the summer
executive meetings were dealt with
along with September's business and
new business.
Donations were passed for the
Brussels dam rejuvenation project
and several others. Standing
committee reports included that the
sports sheets for the fall schedule are
up. Games include crib, bowling,
curling and darts.
Sports chairman Rick McDonald
attended the District sports meeting.
The poppy chairman reported that
all deadlines were met concerning

will help your tension immediately
for your next flight. Greg Mulvey
has a new job. He is now one of the
pilots flying for WestJet.
Congratulations Greg.
And yes the rest of us Will just
smile and move along when we see
Keith and Rita standing staring at the
sky just smiling. Way to go Greg.
Good news at this house. Ralph
had his hardware removed on Friday.
His left arm is healed and now trying
to regain function. It was pretty neat
watching the screwnails come out
with a reversing drill. Oh so simple
and oh so amazing.

the fall poppy canvass which will
begin Oct. 27. The goody bags sent
to Parkwood Hospital were well
received as was the donation of
kneelaps received at the Branch.
Thanks to Comrade Marg Bennett

gifts.
The anniversary committee

for the 75th anniversary. A kick-off

The musical talents of Johnny

Seeds and leaves kept the children
busy in the barn making etchings
and bookmarks as the adults chatted.
Berries, mud and puffballs were the
wagon ride scene stoppers for the
granddaughters but the idea of riding
on an actual farm wagon was simply
the best part of the day for them.
So thank you for keeping us ever
aware of the importance of
conserving our natural resources.
Health is one of the things of life
we take for granted, until it goes off
balance. Jason and Patti Van Der
Meer have had their entire life set off
when son Ian's health was in
question over the past few months.
Trips to the city to see specialists,
time off work, appointments to make
and keep and much travel to the
several hospitals have all taken their
toll on family life.
As community we often feel
helpless when others are hurting.
throughout the evening.
The membership chairman Greg
Wilson reports some have paid their
dues and their names are in the early
bird draw. Don't forget you can win
your 2008 dues by paying your dues
prior to Dec. 1.
The Branch inspection and Zone
visitation is set for Tuesday, Oct. 24
at 8 p.m. with Zone Commander
Shirley Chalmers attending. This is a
uniform meeting if you have one and
all Comrades are encouraged to
attend.
The Friday night supper of ham
and scalloped potatoes was enjoyed
by a good crowd. This week is
Octoberfest sausage and sauerkraut.

Sometimes the support we'd like to
offer is not what is needed at the
time. So in consultation with Patti
and Jason we invite you to dinner on
Oct. 29. Tickets will be available
very soon for two settings of dinner
4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. and the session
of the United Church invite you to
come and show your support for the
family. Mark the date on your
calendar knowing you don't have to
cook supper that night and that Jason
and Patti will feel a little better about
what life has 'offered them just now
with the love and support of our
community.
Better get out and get your
pumpkins. It's pie making time and
our time to pause and give thanks for
the many blessings that we often
take for granted. Celebrate with the
ones you love. Happy Thanksgiving
to you and yours.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
The fish fry crew was off to
