The event had to be cut short for safety reasons. As well as being a launch for the new youth- driven website www.youthspark.ca proceeds from the event went to the MILL (The Joey DePutter Memorial Musical Instrument Lending Library). Joey died in a tragic motor vehicle crash. He had always wanted to take piano lessons but never had the opportunity. After his death his mother, Kim, wanted to help others achieve their dreams in music and the arts. A conversation with a Kingston man who founded the Joe Chithalen Memorial MILL offered direction. Over 300 attend Huronstock Rockin' at Huronstoek The threat of rain that clouded most of the afternoon at Saturday's Huronstock began to break out just as Absence of Presence, which includes, Ben Douglas, left, and Nathian Burke, took the stage. The light drizzle didn't deter the musicians or the fans through the set, however. The event was held to promote the new website www.youthspark.ca, a site that offers insight into and help with tough issues such as drug abuse, binge drinking and depression. The interactive site offers personal stories, local information and events, open forums for young people and professional answers to questions. (Vicky Bremner photo) Huronstock rocked, and the people listened! The Huron County Health Unit held this launch party for the new SPARK website on Saturday at the Clinton grandstands. According to event organizer Sherri Bezaire, over 300 youth ignored the rain and turned out for the concert. Continued from page 2 were the winners of $500. Third place went to John and Iola Subject with 66 points. Not so lucky at cards were Jean Bewley and Elunid McNair who took low prize. Lone hand prizes went to Ken Engel and Maxine Hinz. Euchre is every two weeks. "We were very pleased with the turnout of the event," says Bezaire. "The youth were having a great time and were asking us when we are going to do it again!" Proceeds from the event will go to the Musical Instrument Lending Library (MILL). The SPARK team was'also able to help the cause. The SPARK team would like to thank everyone who supported Huronstock.
