Anniversary couple celebrates with open house
The former Doreen Dykstra and
Murray Siertsema were married. 50
years ago, Sept. 14, at the Clinton
Christian Reformed Church.
The bride was the daughter of

Rev. G. Hoytema officiated at the
service.
Following the ceremony the
newlyweds took a honeymoon trip

Stalled in plans to hire a
consultant to create a strategic
facilities plan, Huron County
councillors will try to speed up one
section of that plan: improvements
to the assessment building.
Warden Rob Morley noted the
county had not been able to sign a
new lease with its major client,
MPAC (the Municipal Property
Assessment Corporation) because of
a lack of space. If an elevator is
installed that problem is likely to be
solved and the additional space
rented would probably pay back the
expense of the elevator in four years,
he predicted. He urged the 'issue be
turned over to the warden's task
force for faster disposition.
South Huron councillor Dave
Urlin urged even faster action.
"We've got the money and we've
been talking about the elevator for
the six years that I've been here," he
said. "Let's just to it. Do it today."
East. Huron councillor Bernie
MacLellan agreed, noting that "any
time you've got a four-year payback,
any business would jump at it."
year.
Doreen has beeen a housewife and
in the last 11 years has operated a
bed and breakfast in Blyth.
The couple raised three sons and
two daughters. As well, they are now
proud grandparents to 15.
They have been involved in a
variety of activities in the
"I don't know why it wasn't
brought to council that there was a
building that could be updated and
get a four-year payback,"
complained Huron East councillor
Joe Seili.
But Central Huron councillor John
Bezaire added a cautious note. He
hadn't seen figures that suggested
the payback would be in four years.
"I think we're being a little trigger
happy."
County engineer Don Pletch noted
that council had received a report on
the assessment building two years
ago in which the estimate was a cost

Mrs. Bauer attended a workshop

types of hostas. She also had home
recipes for controlling insects in the

of $200,000 to the elevator
renovations. At the time, he said,
council had voted to declare the
building surplus to the county's
needs so it could be offered for sale.
Councillors agreed to have Pletch
update the figures for the September
committee-of-the-whole meeting so
it could hopefully get renovations in
gear before councillor's terms of
office expire.
Meanwhile three consultants who
answered a request for proposals for
a strategic facilities plan will be
asked to make presentations at the
strategic planning session this fall.
Leona Armstrong gave an ACWW
report, informing members that the
next convention will be held in
Finland in June 2007.
Happy Birthday was sung for Jean
Fraser and a special 90th greeting
was given to Alice Brothers.
Lunch was served by Lucy Hesse
and Marie McCutcheon.
The next meeting will be held on
Oct. 11.
UFO will be hosted by Lucy
Hesse on Oct. 10.
