BLYTH UNITED CHURCH
Greeting at Blyth United Church
on Sunday, Sept. 24 were Lois van
Vliet and Myrtle Badley. Guest
organist was Dr. James Hall from
Wingham. Ushering were Myrtle
Badley, Rob Mason and Lavern
Clark.
The choir sang Breathe on Me,
Breath of God.
Rev. Robin McGauley invited the
children to come to the front of the
church. She asked them to give her
some suggestions as to what the
world considers great and then what
Jesus considered great.
Some of the world suggestions
were: rich, to be first, to be king.
Some of the suggestions for Jesus
were: patience, kind to each other,
not to be first in everything.
The children and congregation
sang The Lord's Prayer along with
actions. Amanda Craig carried the
lighted candle down to Sunday
school.
Emily Phillips read the scripture
reading James 3: 13-4:3, 7-8a, Psalm
1 was read responsively. Scriptures
were also read from Mark 9: 30-37.
Rev. McGauley's message to the
adults was Last of All and Servant of
All. Jesus tells us to be last and not
first, the poor shall be rich and the
sick shall be well. In society today
people try to climb the ladder of
greatness. Jesus taught people to be
a tiny seed and to grow and prosper.
Congregants were each given a
piece of paper in the shape of a seed
on which to write down what they
thought Jesus wanted them to do.
These were placed in a flowerpot at
The front of the church.

North Huron council briefs
Loan added to taxes
At the North Huron committee of
the whole meeting on Sept. II, it
was explained that the outstanding
balance on the Blyth arena as of the

A total of $12,000 has been
included in the 2006 budget to be
applied to the loan.
A letter was received from Todd
MacDonald regarding the Blyth

At its regular meeting Sept. -18,
council approved a committee of the
whole recommendation that four or
five public works employees be
enrolled in the winter maintenance
training sessions. Cost will be based
on the number of people attending.
Council also approved a
recommendation that a $5,000
reserve bid be placed on the 1988
International truck at the county .
auction.
The committee of the whole was
advised by clerk-administrator Kriss
Snell that council needed to look at
future development. He stressed the
importance of preparing a document
for developers outlining the
municipality's standards and what
could be expected from them.
At the Sept. 18 meeting council
authorized Snell to obtain a quote
from B.M. Ross and Associates for
the preparation of a development
standards document.

Deputy-reeve Murray Scott was
taking a request from the 911
Ontario Advisory Board to county
council.
The board is apparently running
out of funds and requesting a
donation of $100 from each
municipality.
"I asked the chief if we need them
or can we fix this locally and he said
we need them," said Scott.
Snell then asked if this wasn't
something that should be county
driven.
'I see it that way," said Scott,
adding that he would be bringing it
up at the next meeting.

Joan Pletch is retiring from the
Wingham Police Services Board.
Reeve Doug Layton acknowledged

greatly missed."

Councillor Arnold Taylor said that
Wheels Away was having a problem
keeping up the numbers of board
members. "We are looking at how to
approch that."
He also said th'at fundraising
would be starting after Dec. 15 and
that they are looking at getting a
webpage designed.
***
Bills and accounts totalling
$247,146.81 were approved for
payment.
