Heartstrings promises evening of laughs
Two of Canada's premiere
violinists/fiddlers, one of Canada's
greatest soprano singers, an
acclaimed comedic actor and the
three time World Champion whistler
present Heartstrings - a new
discovery in musical theatre.
Playing at the Blyth Festival
theatre Sept. 22-30, Heartstrings
promises an evening that would have
made Charlie Chaplin laugh and
give Victor Borge the giggles.

whimsical blending of seemingly
incompatible musical worlds - from

Robert Fionda, a Michigan
watercolourist and art -educator
shared his observations about
Feeding the Artist Within. He
offered many ideas for 'growing'
creativity.
"Whether we are beginners or
long-term experts, it is essential to
sustain otir energy for growth," he
stated.
The audience of 25 persons was
comprised of local artists and
community members with an
interest in art.
"Our outreach goals were largely
met," stated organizer Paul Carroll.

first-annual Mom-to-Mom sale
where more than a dozen Moms will
sell their used items in support of
Owen's Light.
The sale will be held at St.
George's Anglican Church located
on North Street in Goderich on
Saturday, Sept. 23 and will run from
9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Vendors paid $25 towards Owen's
Light to rent a table and will keep
the proceeds from the sale of their
items. The sale will also feature a
big ticket items room where cribs,
strollers, high chairs and play
equipment will be sold. All items are
gently used and according to the
vendors, meet safety requirements.
"We hope to make this an annual
event where families can find toys or
clothing for their children all in one
location, while supporting doula
services throughout Huron County."
said Selena Hazlitt, volunteer co-
ordinator for Owen's Light.
Owen's Light is a program
dedicated to providing Huron
County women with access to birth
doula support. A birth doula is a
person trained and experienced in
childbirth who provides continuous
physical, emotional and
informational support to the mother
before, during and just after birth.

Redican is a virtuosic and heartfelt
comic look at the emotion of love
told through the history of the fiddle
and violin through the ages.
David Bochner returns to the
Kiwanis• Club for his annual slide
show. This time his travelling
beyond the participating artists to
include anyone who will support
local fine arts and participate in
related activities. If we can sustain
this level of interest — or even
increase it just a little — we will be
more than pleased." .
The presentations continue, Oct.
11, featuring local surgeon-turned-
artist, J. Michael Watts, with A Light
and Leisurely Look at a few selected
pieces by the Great Masters. On
Nov. 15, local architect, John
Rutledge will present Perceptions of
Yard Art, a look at folk art and yard
art treasures around Huron County.
The presentations begin at 7:15
pm, at the Co-op Gallery, 54
Courthouse Square, Goderich. The
nominal admission charge is $5 per
event, and will include a gallery tour
at 7:15 p.m. and refreshments
following the presentation. Tickets
are available at the Gallery or at the
door.
"Outreach to the general public,
and to those who do not themselves
create, but rather still appreciate the
fine arts, will strengthen the core of
our existence," says one of the Co-
op founding members Madeleine
Roske.
Gallery members are preparing to
release their first series of unique
works for the creation of a holiday
card package. Packs of 15
reproductions of original local fine
art will be available in October.

North America to discuss his life-
long passion of romantic music and,
