THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2006. frININEimineui SUMNEREMSR 2004 Pont INMIA1 300). 40,010 Steamed Brian Garnet was serving up corn at the Huron Chapel Evangelical Missionary Church fundraiser on Saturday. The day included a silent auction, bake sale and beef barbecue. A Toronto street pastor at St. Jordan Sanctuary told of his ministry and what the needs are for the homeless people in the city. The fundraiser brought in more than $1,500 from donations, and the proceeds of the auction and bake sale. Donations of warm clothing and blankets are still coming in, so organizer Sandy Garnet expects there will be a couple of van loads to take to Toronto. (Vicky Bremner photo) Our sympathies to Paul and Patti Cooke and their children, Kelly and Lucas on the passing of Paul's mother, Lenore Cooke Gibson. Visitation was held at McCallum and Palla Funeral Home on Sunday. The funeral was held Monday. Knox and Londesborough churches held a combined service at Ball's Church. The weather co- operated and the scenery, as always, was amazing. There was a quartet from Londesborough consisting of Barb Bosman, Brenda Radford, Harry and Gail Lear. They sang three selections. Ethan and Marshall Durnin played several selections on their violins, one melody which consisted of a collection of their great-uncle Ernie Durnin's favourite tunes. Bernice Anderson, Greg and Nancy Park hosted Mary Mallory from Kircaldy, Alberta and Ruth Shackleton from Waterloo for a few days. Mary's mother and Ruth's mother-in-law was the former Fern Patterson who was born in the Auburn area, went to school at SS#16 East Wawanosh and attended church at Knox. Mary and Ruth spent three days in the area catching up with cousins and friends before returning to their perspective homes. The friends of Ball's bridge have been busy stirring up interest in reopening the bridge. You will be sure to hear more from them in the future as they bring forward everything from emergency response times to the historical significance of this structure. Each and every point is extremely valid. They are urging everyone to visit their website at www.friendsofballbridge.com, sign their petition (I believe I am number 675) or ask more questions. Do it today! Time may be short for this beautiful piece of Huron County history. The Between the Sheets writers' group centred in Goderich will be hosting the tri-county writers' potluck fall session on Oct. 22 at 1 Huron County councillors should be well represented on the Source Water Protection Planning Committee, councillors decided at their Sept. 7 meeting. Under the provincial Clean Water Act, given second reading last April, the planning committee will be set up for the Maitland and Ausable- Bayfield watersheds, an area that touches six counties and involves 22 municipalities. The committee will include 15 people plus a chair. Central Huron councillor Bert Dykstra raised the issue of Huron's representation, noting that despite the far-flung nature of the area, the majority of land covered is within Huron County. He argued it would be difficult to choose people from the different lower-tier municipalities to properly represent the county so suggested the appointments should be at the county level. p.m. (hopefully at the lawn bowing club in Goderich). For more information give anyone in Huron, Grey or Bruce who belongs to a writing group a call and they will be able to help you find your way to the buffet. Annette Stephenson of Brussels was here to visit on Friday and from breakfast to lunch we never slowed down. What a great visit. We had a lot of catching up to do. Now that everyone is back to school and we are all into our routines once again I hope to be making some additions and changes to my own website. Look me up at www.debbiebauer.ca "It's my opinion that the appointments should come from the county level," agreed Goderich councillor Deb Shewfelt. "Huron County is the largest land base in both watersheds." Ben Van Diepenbeek, councillor for Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh noted that two or three of the council members were already members of the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority and others members of the Ausable-Bayfield Conservation Authority, meaning three or four people were wearing multiple hats at conservation-related meetings. Planning director Scott Tousaw recommended that councillors might want to amend their motion that the county request the opportunity to appoint one of its members to the committee to make it two or three. An amendment was passed saying the county requested up to three members on the committee.
