Gord's brother Bob and wife
Jean's 25th anniversary as
well.
It was a beautiful day and a
beautiful wedding on
Saturday for Stacy Linton
and Joe Courtney. . The
wedding was held at Duff's
United Church and the 'dinner
and reception were at Ripley
Community Centre.
The royal blue gowns of
the bridesmaid and black
with grey tuxedos of the men
looked • fabulous. The
wedding party was driven
away from the church in an
array of classic cars, one of
which is father Dave's
restored Nova.
The dinner was delicious
and the speeches very
entertaining, especially the
father of the bride's. Dave
gave a history lesson on the
Linton and Pryce ancestors
and where Stacy's attributes
and faults may have came
from.
In lieu of a table favour, a
donation to the Brain Tumor
Founda• ion in memory of
Stacy's Grandma Linton was
chosen. Congrats to the
newlyweds.
At Patty Banks' home,
there was a birthday party for
the extended members of the
family. Celebrating birthdays
this past week were Brdoke
Leslie Ribey, Loni Horst and
David Haney. Dinner, fun
and celebrations for all were
enjoyed..
New residents on Canada
Company Road are Pete and
Suzanne Terpstra along with
their two children. .
The fall is upon us and with
that the turning of the leaves,
the turning of the ground
with ploughing and of course
the harvesting of crops. Many
local farmers have been hard
at the white beans with some
farmer at soybeans.
The rain on Monday put an
end to harvest for now so
other work will get caught
up.
Grade 9s beat average
Returning from a trip to
Nanimo, B.C. were Lorne
and Bonnie Glanville. They
went to visit their son Paul-,
his wife Teresa and
grandchildren Meagan and
Erica.
They were away 10 days.
They flew into Vancouver,
then took a flight to
Vancouver Island.
They spent lots of time
playing and getting to know
the granddaughters. They
enjoyed their time enjoying
the magnificent view from
Paul and Teresa's home on
the shoreline, and going on a
riverboat ride.
They took the ferry and
went to the mainland to visit
with Harold McCallum's
sister Donna. Cousins of
Lorne's on the McCallum
side also made the trip over to
Vancouver Island to visit
with Lome and Bonnie and
their family.
They enjoyed beautiful
weather while away and
already miss the
grandchildren.
Taking the bus to
Richmond, Virginia were
Gene and Joyce Marcuccio.
They enjoyed a bus trip to the
Nascar 400 race that was won
by Kevin Harditt.
The first day they saw the
250 race and the qualifiers
for Saturday.
Joyce reports having a
great time on the bus.
Congratulations to Gord
and Janice (Houston)
Carnochan on their 25th
wedding anniversary. They
hosted a party for family and
friends at their home in

In Huron and Perth
Counties, meanwhile, Grade
9 success rates have been
consistently higher than the
provincial average. In 2006,
79 per cent of academic-level
Avon Maitland students
passed the test, along with 53
per cent of applied-level
students. Both are
improvements over the
previous year.
In the Huron-Perth
Catholic District School
Board, 71 per cent of
academic-level students and
58 per cent of applied-level
students were successful.
District-wide math success
rates for both boards' Grades
3 and 6 students were also
above the province-wide
averages in 2006.
"Our math
accomplishments continue to
be extremely strong and the
success of our students can be
attributed to the board's
continuing goal of improving
student achievement in all
areas of student learning,
with a focus on literacy and
numeracy," stated Avon
Maitland director of
education Geoff Williams, in
a news release.
Avon Maitland results in
reading and writing, however,
betray that the literacy side of
that equation isn't necessarily
keeping up, at least in the
eyes of the EQAO. Just 58
per cent of Grade 3 students
were successful in reading,
compared to 62 per cent
provincewide.
And 57 per cent of students
in both Grade 3 and 6 writing
were successful, compared to
provincewide results of 64
per cent and 61 per cent.
"The board's curriculum
teams and schools are
carefully analyzing these
results to determine the
reason for the slight decline
in reading and writing scores
. . . so that learning strategies
can be implemented to ensure
the board reaches the 2008
provincial target," states
the Avon Maitland news
release.
At The Catholic board,
success rates were
consistently above the
provincewide average in all
disciplines — to the point
they're almost at the 2008
targets already.
"A focus on literacy and
numeracy improvement by
elementary teachers across
the board continues to
highlight the great work that
is being done in achieving
continuous improvement,"
stated a news release from the
Catholic board.
7 children attend Sunday school
There were seven children
in attendance at Duff's United
Church Sunday school.
The children continued
discussing the adventures of
Moses.
They pretended to be frogs
representing the plague of
frogs and they made a cloud
snack and a burning bush they -
could eat.
They are continuing to
collect food for their food
drive and also have started
selling Rheo Thompson mint
smoothie chocolates as a
fundraiser.
Guest speaker, Gloria
Wilbee, led the service at
Duff's.
The congregation was
blessed with special music
performed by Gloria and the
Walton Church band.
Gloria's reflection was
entitled Blest Be The Tie That
Binds.
