ANNIE JEAN MCNEIL
Jean McNeil passed away
peacefully at Huronlea in Brussels
on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006.
Jean was born on March 17, 1920
in Edgeley, Saskatchewan, a
daughter of the late Ernest and Mary
"(Hughes) McCullough.
As a young girl she moved with
her family to the Teeswater area. On
June 4, 1938 Jean married James C.
(Jim) McNeil and they resided in
Belmore, Ontario; Saskatoon,
Saskatchewan and Maple, Ontario.
They moved to Brussels in 1946
where they owned and operated the
Shell Service Station until
retirement.
Jean was very proud of her
family's achievements. She was
interested in genealogy and had a
great love of animals. In her lifetime,
Jean overcame many hardships with
great courage, tenacity and good
spirit.
Jean was the dear mother of
Shirley (Ron) Higgins of Stratford
and Don (Susan) McNeil of Brussels
and mother-in-law of Dianne
McNeil of London. She will be sadly
missed by her grandchildren Karen
Higgins (Clive), Wanda (Kent)
Cleland of Stratford, Terry (Brenda)
Higgins, Guelph, Cindy McNeil
(Brian), Toronto, Michelle (Mike),
Dauphin, Brussels, Dan (Jen)
McNeil, Wingham, Paula and Teresa
McNeil, London. She was the proud
great-grandma of Amanda (David)
King, Shauna Bailey, Sara, Erin and
Alex Cleland, Stratford; Jamie,
Daniel and Kevin Higgins, Guelph;
Dylan McNeil, Aliya and Lana
Dauphin, Brussels and Haley
McNeil, Wingham and great-great-
grandmother of Elizabeth Bailey-
King of Stratford. Jean is also
survived by her sister, Mary Nickel,
Kitchener, and her brother, Bert
(Pat) McCullough, Walkerton and
many nieces and nephews.
Jean was predeceased by her
beloved husband, Jim, in 1991, a
loved son, Jimmy, in 1980 and an
infant granddaughter, Tracy Lyne
McNeil in 1968.
Visitation was held at the
Schimanski Family Funeral Home,
Brussels, on Saturday from 7 - 9
p.m. where the funeral service was
conducted on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 2
p.m. with visitation one hour prior to
the service. Rev. Cathrine Campbell
of Melville Presbyterian Church
officiated.
Hymns sung during the service
were Will Your Anchor Hold and
Blessed Assurance, Jesus Is Mine.
Elli Schimanski sang one of Jean's
favourite songs, One Day At A Time.
Floral tributes were carried by the
granddaughters. Pallbearers were
Unforeseen problems encountered
during the repairs to Donnybrook
bridge north of Auburn have sent the
cost soaring, Huron County council
learned at its Sept. 7 meeting.
County engineer Don Pletch
explained that once the asphalt was
removed, it became evident that
more work would be needed than the
original estimate.
The planning, agriculture and
public works committee had
recommended council allot an
additional $110,000 including
contingency, to complete the repairs.
The money would come from the
budget allocation for "unforeseen
circumstances".
But Huron East councillor 'Bernie
Terry Higgins, Kent Cleland, Clive
Edmonds, Mike Dauphin, Brian
Kieller and Don Martin.
Burial was in Brussels Cemetery.
The family expresses thanks to the
wonderful staff at Huronlea for their
compassionate care given to Jean
and to Rev. Cathrine Campbell for
her may visits.
Memorial donations may be made'
to Melville Presbyterian Church,
Huronlea Auxiliary or the charity of
one's choice.

"ONE DAY AT A TIME"
MacLellan questioned that solution.
"Is this putting the roads budget in a
loosey-goosey position?" he
wondered.
Treasurer Dave Carey suggested
that the overage be covered from
within the roads budget for the time
being and that if at the end of the
year the roads department was over
budget, then look at the "unforeseen
circumstances" fund.
But South Huron. councillor Ken
Oke didn't agree. "We shouldn't
even be discussing it," he said. "We
started it (the bridge repair). We
need to fix it properly."
Council approved the original
motion to budget $110,000 extra for
repairs.

bridge repair costs to soar
