FROM WALTON
UCW
guest
talks
about
Foodbank
Members of the United Church
Women met on Wednesday evening
at Duff's United Church. There
were about 20 members present.
The UCW is in need of a new
secretary as Gloria Wilbee has
resigned the position due to work
commitments. Any other
resignations need to be handed in by
the end of September to Teresa
Baan.
The guest speaker was Angela
Swart, who spoke on the Food Bank
organization of Seaforth. She
explained how it is run by
volunteers and is a very organized
and confidential service provided to
residents of the Seaforth area.
She spoke on the quantities of
resources used through the . Food
Bank. Many area organizations and
community members are very
generous in their donations and
appreciate their support.
Angela provided a great deal of
information and answered the many
questions from the members.
Toonies for Friendship were
collected and the Judy Lee side was
the winner for the first time in many
years.
Helen Craig thanked everyone for
working so hard and carrying out
the many successful events held this
summer.
Audrey Hackwell and Didi Bos
served apple crisp and ice-cream
following the meeting.

Our family had the pleasure of
brother-in-law Charlie Calhoun
travelling from North Carolina to

It was a 50th anniversary
celebration for Elaine and Al Nichol
at their Brussels home on Saturday.
Special guests from Florida,
Arizona, Owen. Sound, London,
Pennsylvania, Sault Ste. Marie,
Saskatchewan and Toronto attended
an open house in the afternoon.
The former Elaine Kernaghan,
daughter of Vera and Clifford of
Brussels and G. Allan Nichol, son of
Frank and Eleanor also of Brussels
were married at the Kernaghan
home Sept. 1, 1956. Rev. Colvin
officiated.
The couple was attended by
Elizabeth (Balzer) Myers and Fred
McCutcheon.
Following a honeymoon trip to
Vancouver, the Nichols returned to
make their home in Brussels.
Initially Al was employed at
Waxman Salvage, but eventually
was self-employed as a general
contrktor. Elaine worked at Spinrite
in Listowel.
The Nichols have been retired for
14 years.
The couple has two sons, Murray
and Kevin and a daughter-in-law
Darlene. The family also now
includes four granddaughters,
Melissa, Angela, Michelle and
enjoyed a trip to Manitoulin
Island. They had a ride on the
Chicheemaun and stayed at a lovely
bed and breakfast on the island.
They hiked the cup and saucer trail
and encouraged all to traverse to the
plateau for a beautiful panoramic
-view of the entire island.
On the holiday Monday, Rick and
Amanda.
The Nichols have been involved in
the community with a number of
organizations currently and over the
years. These include the Legion,
minor • hockey as a coach, the
women's ball team and the Cadets.
Al and Elaine were pleased to
have friends and family with them to
help celebrate their milestone.
Jo-Ann McDonald and LeeAnn
Konarski enjoyed a belated, and a
pre-celebration, half century dinner
with. Charlie and Karin in Bayfield.
It was motocross this weekend in
Walton. On Saturday, the weather
did not co-operate and with too
much rain the morning, the day's
events were cancelled.
The Vet Master National Race will
now be held on Oct. 1.
The regular fall race scheduled' for
Sunday was held in cooler but drier
conditions. Riders thought the
cooler weather was great and a good
day was held.
They weren't here long on
Thursday, but for less than an hour,
there was .lots of activity on
Moncrieff Road.
The first clue that something was
going on was the dark coloured
helicopter hovering over the
cornfield next door. It had made
passes over the house and fields
before settling. Arriving on the side
road were six different vehicles.
Men from two vehicles entered the
field as the helicopter hovered. You
could tell where the men were
because they had a very tall pole that
was fluorescent green and stood out
above the corn.
It was only 30 minutes or so and
out of the _field the men came
carrying armfuls of, you guessed,
marijuana plants.
Welcome home for a short visit
from Picture Butte, Alberta, north of
Lethbridge, Steve and Melissa
Leonhardt. They were home for just
the weekend so Steve could play in
the Huron County Meifs Fastball
Tournament.
They moved to the west a couple
of months ago where Melissa
accepted a position at the Livestock
Veterinary. Services veterinary
practice following her graduation
from the Veterinary Prdgram in
Guelph.
She presently works with 50 per
cent small animals and 50 per cent
1Srge, although her speciality is
cattle.
Steve is employed by Butte
Holsteins.
They had a very short visit, but
managed family meals gathered
with the Wallace fathily on Thursday
and Friday, lots of ball Saturday and
Sunday and family gathering with
Leonhardts Sunday night before
leaving on Monday. It was great to
see the newlyweds.
Mark McNichol is also home at
this time. He was here to attend the
Beuermann wedding and to catch up
with friends and family.
Milestone
Elaine and Al Nichol celebrated 50 years of marriage with
an open house at their home on Saturday afternoon.
