PAGE A17. THRESHER REUNION Help on site to deal with emergencies There is always the possible risk of injury whenever a large number of people gather in one place, but thankfully help will be just around the corner at the 2006 Huron Pioneer Thresher Reunion. Each year the annual show attracts thousands of people to its fairgrounds and it's a reassuring feeling to see the highly-visible presence of the Blyth firefighters. As a first response team, members of the department are prepared to handle virtually every type of emergency from fire to heart attack. • Chief Paul Josling said a minimum of two or three firefighters will be on site during the day to help with medical needs as well as fire safety. The fire and rescue truck will be located in a prominent place on the grounds. There will also be a golf cart patrolling the grounds throughout the day. When the local heroes are not at the Reunion, they will be busy preparing breakfast on Saturday and Sunday morning of the event. They are, however, only a phone call away. There is a pay phone in the arena and the registration desk is also open so that the fire department can be contacted in case of an emergency. New this year is a dedicated phone number located in the ctampsite that campers can call that will put them directly through to the fire department. Where there are cars there are men talking. The Reunion offers not just some nostalgic sights, but also the opportunity for folks to chat and reminisce. Cooper began having her dogs trained in Putnam and in the fall of 1994, took part in her first competition. "I was hooked," she stated. "It's the most fun you can have with your dog." She indicated it is much like the feeling between horse and rider in Grand Prix show jum- ping. There are different levels of competition for the dogs, from starters to masters. Not only is the length of the course different according to the level of the dog, but the time the dog has to complete the course is different as well. It comes down to yards per second. Gypsy, a 10-year-old border collie, competes at the masters' levels and is almost finished her competitive career. It is during the competition that the bond between animal and human is prominent.
