THRESHER REUNION
Log cabin finds new home at grounds
Freiburger from Walkerton. There
are new windows and sashes
upstairs. A stair railing was
constructed and the old floor
downstairs was completely torn out
and replaced with a new pine floor.
Two new exterior doors and jams
were installed. These proved the test
of workmanship recently, when
would-be vandals attempted to break
in. Footprints showed that they
attempted to kick the doors in, but
that was the only evidence as they
stood firm against the attack.
Chamney Sanitation donated bins
for rubbish to the effort and Reg
Brindley chinked the interior. "The
seams had been cracked after it was
moved," said Schneider. "He cleaned
it out and replastered."

Step in the doors, take a quiet
breath, close your eyes and take a
step back in time.
There's a hint of woodsmoke and
if you let your imagination go, you
can almost hear the chatter of family
gathered around the supper table.
Boys in breeches, pestering their
pinafored sisters. Mother lifting the
kettle from the fire, while Father
settles in for the evening meal.
A tribute to pioneer life that was
moved to the Thresher fairgrounds
last year, will be open to visitors for
the 2005 Reunion.
If you would like to know what's
happening where, be sure to stop by
the information booth.
The booth will be located right in
front of Shed 2, which is halfway
between the arena and the back
The old log cabin, constructed in
1861 was brought from its original
location in East Wawanosh Twp.
It had known the stories of adults
and laughter of many children over
the decades, but by the time Don Hill
of the Blyth area, moved in as a
tenant in 1977, the cabin had sat
empty for some time and was in
desperate need of some TLC.
Hill did extensive repair on the
34x23-foot home in the 1980s and
Thresher Association members
believe it was because of his work
that the cabin had stayed in such
good shape for so many years after
he and his family moved out.
When the new property owners,
shed.
You'll be able to pick up
programs, general information and
someone will be able to guide you in
the right direction.
This year there will be a display
who didn't live in the house agreed
to sell it to the Association the next
big step was to move it. It was
carried by float to its new location at
the Thresher campgrounds in August
of 2004.
For that Reunion, the building
offered a hint of a new attraction. Its
presence was notable with its central
location, but there was too much
work required to open it „to the
public. Thanks to the efforts of a
small group of volunteers, led by Jim
Schneider and Bill Andrews, the log
cabin has been revived once again.
They tore the whole roof off and
Mennonites replaced it. The cedar
shingles were donated by Frank
board with a map on it so you can
visually see where you want to gti.
Also being offered this year for
the first time is a lost and found and
first aid. There will be professionals
on site to assist in the first aid.
