Ready for the show
Volunteeer Edgar Daer moves the ticket booth in place for the 45th annual Thresher Reunion
in Blyth this weekend. Many hands made for lighter work as a work bee was held on Monday
to prepare for the event which will attract thousands to the town. Campers had already begun
arriving over the long weekend. (Vicky Bremner photo)

We believe principles
incorporated into the risk
management program, proposed by
farm organizations, would go a long
way to solving much of the farm
income crisis. Getting our
governments to act on implementing
necessary companion programs
remains a priority for OFA.
A specific tool box needs to be
developed to solve the farm income
problems:
• the recent ethanol announcement
starts the work on the market
development side of the solution;
points; ninth, Bauer Farms, 79
points.
Grain corn: tied for first, Jeff
Cardiff, Bill Sellers, 89.5 points;
second, Murray Cardiff, 89 points;
third, Matt Shortreed, 87.5 points;
fourth, Glen Sellers, 86.5 points;
fifth, Jerry Zwep, 85.5 points; sixth,
Darren Johnston, 85 points; seventh,
Bruce Higgins, 83 points; eighth,
Neil Mitchell, 82.5 points; ninth,
Bauer Farms, 81.5 points.
To complete the competitions,
entrants must exhibit a crop sample
(variety named) at the Brussels Fall
Fair on Sept.19: white beans, 1/4
bushel; soybeans, 10 stalks; grain
corn, 10 cobs.
• policies must be implemented
that allow farmers to be profitable
participants in new market
opportunities;
• competitive safety net program
support is critical for development
of a sustainable industry.
We need action by our
governments to support the industry
that feeds and could fuel the people
of Ontario and Canada.
