Congregants socialize before service
Congregants arriving at

Sunday, Sept. 3 were able to
socialize before the service over
coffee and muffins graciously
offered by Gordon and Darlene
Shobbrook.
Kerri Grant shared her talents
during the service as organist.
Flowers on the memorial stand
that morning had been placed in
memory of Kent Shillinglaw by his
family. Kent left us suddenly and too
soon several years ago on this
Labour Day weekend.
To begin the children's time Rev.
Pat Cook held up a piece of paper
and queried as to what we saw. The
sheet of white paper had a black dot
in the centre. Most people would
answer that they saw a black dot.
The parallel to life was that the white
area represented most of the time

discipleship or performance. James
points out that every good thing in
life comes from God and that He
will bless those that do.
However Rev. Cook warned about
listening only to the surface of a
passage instead of looking deeper
into its message. Christians should
work toward fulfilling that deeper
message in every day living beyond
one's ordinary "safe" zone, for
