Glousher, Lois van Vliet, Rob
Mason and Emily Phillips.
The choir led the service in the
absence of Rev. Robin McGauley.
Cheryl Cronin welcomed
everyone to church and led a hymn-
sing consisting of What a Friend We
Have in Jesus, All the Way and This
is the Day.
It has been 60 years since the
former Hazel Stewart and Mason
Bailey were married. The Blyth
couple celebrated this milestone on
Sunday with an open house at their
home.
The Sept. 4 ceremony took place
at St. John's Anglican Church in
Sarnia, birthplace of both the bride
and the groom, with Rev. Blackwell.
officiating. Parents of the bridal
couple were Elva and James Stewart
and Thomas Andrew and Iola
Beatrice Bailey.
Attendants for the bride were her
cousin Elizabeth Kennedy and
Isabel Stewart, the bride's six-year-
old sister was flowergirl. Standing
up with the groom were his brother
Jim Bailey, the bride's brother
Charles Stewart and a cousin Glen
Thomson.
Following the ceremony the
couple honeymooned in Toronto.
The children brought the baskets
of food to the front for the Food
Bank. The children's hymn was
Jesus Bids Us Shine.
011ie Craig told the children the
story of Billie Beaver and how he
saved Thumper's burrow from
flooding by dropping a tree in the
waters' way.
They resided in Sarnia for a time
before moving to Blyth.
A former reeve of Blyth, Bailey
was a well-known businessperson in
both the local community and
Clinton. He served 40 years in
elected positions from school board
to farm organizations and in
municipal politics.
His wife has kept the homefires
burning through the years.
The couple had seven children,
Larry, Val, Mavis, Danny, Bonnie,
Clifford and Tom. The family has
grown to include many
grandchildren and great-
grandchildren.
Cheryl Cronin and Avon Corneil
favoured the congregation with a
duet, Whispering Hope.
Bodie Craig read the Psalm 150
and David Onn led the responsive
Ten Commandments with everyone
singing the refrain.
The choir sang the anthem Father
Almighty.
011ie Craig read a sermon
borrowed from one of Rev. Eugen
Bannerman's sermons, For the Joy
of Music. Music is a gift from God.
There is no reference in the Bible
that Jesus had any musical talents.
Music bonds people together as the
song Elton John sang Candle in the
Wind at Princess Diana's funeral.
Bach composed many of the
hymns today. Jesus may not have
had any musical talents but there are
many songs written about him.
