OPP warn drivers to
be good or get busted
Every holiday weekend this past
summer, the Ontario Provincial
Police has delivered important safety
messages about everything from
child car seats to safe boating, in an
effort to gear Ontarians up for a safe
and pleasant summer.
Now that the last long weekend of
the summer is almost upon us
motorists have been given the
straight goods about safety all
summer, the OPP is joining with
police services across the province
to ensure a safe Labour Day holiday.
The OPP is warning everyone that
they will exercise zero tolerance
towards those who commit offences
on our roads and lakes this weekend.
"Motor vehicle collisions and
boating incidents do not occur
because Of inevitable
circumstances," said Const. Jeff
Walraven, "but through
circumstances that can completely
be avoided if common sense is
reflected in our behaviour when
driving a vehicle or a boat."
Yet every year, common sense
does not always prevail and as such,
OPP officers from detachments
across the province will be targeting
everyone who is caught speeding,
drinking and driving/boating, failing
to buckle up, driving aggressively,
making unsafe driving maneuvers,
and hauling marine vessels and
trailers dangerously.
The OPP hopes that delivering
these important safety messages
before and going into the Labour
Day weekend will ingrain safety into
the minds of everyone taking to the,
road and water this coming
weekend, and will prompt you to
remember that lying around doing
nothing is a lot more relaxing at the
lake than in the hospital.
"Have a safe and memorable
Labour Day weekend, and make sure
that you and your family live to talk
about it for years to come."
Forums set up to discuss LHINs
Many community forums have
have been set up to share the
proposed priorities of Local Health
Integration Networks, and to listen
to the ideas of the people about
health care concerns.
In March 2006, the Ontario
government passed legislation
creating 14 LHINs.
LHINs are not-for-profit
organizations that have the mandate
to plan and co-ordinate specific
health care services as well as to
ensure that health care
organizations, community based
services, health centres, long-term
care homes and hospitals work
together to deliver seamless,
accessible and responsive care that
focuses on prevention, diagnosis and
treatment based on local needs and
local input.
By working with local health
providers and community members,
LHINs are developing an integrated
health service plan for their local
area. Eventually they will be
responsible for funding and ensuring
accountability of local health service
providers.
(MS — For many families, there
is an undeniable need to hire child
care. However, there have been
increasing reports of improper
behavior or abuse from child-care
workers. Here are some signs that
indicate time to look for new
help:
• Sitter seems secretive: Your
sitter should be able to provide you
a rundown of the day's activities. If
she is hush-hush about things, it
could mean she's hiding something.
• Your children aren't happy to
see the sitter. While it could take a
few weeks or months for children to
warm up to a new sitter, most will
eventually find a connection to this
caregiver. If your child seems
unusually withdrawn or scared, the
sitter may be to blame.
• Your child is getting into too
many accidents. Children are active
and do get banged up on occasion.
However, if too many easily
avoidable accidents are happening,
it could mean the sitter isn't
watching the children as carefully as
she should.
• She's overly critical of your
parenting style. If she doesn't follow
your guidelines or regularly

The health service providers that
